a school which handicaps itself like SMU simply can't have a hair-trigger and fire coaches every two years and one reason is what nobody wants to mention. Assuming Bamba Fall is SMU's salvation by say 2008 or 2009 with assistance from Brian Morris. First, there appears to be no gurantee these guys will stay as both seem to have entertained the possibility of transferring at least initially. Second, you win championship by grouping mature players in the upper classes. SMU doesn't have the policies - or at least hasn't to date-to allow it to bring in Division 1A transfers or go after the vast majority of JUCOs who could help the program. So SMU has followed up the Fall and Morris Class with a big fat ZERO in recruiting this year. There goes the complementary upperclassmen necessary to make a Championship run. Schools that get in a habit of quick successive terminations of coaches often face the results of this recruiting roller coaster where every few recruiting classes are a dud due to coaching changes. See Baylor Football.

the recent insider rumors I have heard were that SMU was planning on ditching Tubbs before Copeland announced retirement.

That is the only explanation that makes sence. Gramps initiated Burgergate way before Copeland was pushed to retire, thus making it impossible for Orsini to be orchestrating this debacle. I do believe Orsini was told of what was going to happen before he was hired so he obviously knew he would be needing a coach, but thats it. No athletic director with his resume and reputation would sign off on a deal to start an NCAA investigation in order to fire the coach.

Gramps masterminded and initiated Burgergate, and with SMU obviously playing along it leads me to believe only one thing. In return for letting him get rid of Tubbs for little Matt's sake, Gramps is going to bankroll the new pactice court that we desperately need.

COOMING SOON! The Grandpa Center.

I have been the most vocal with the keyboard about SMU needing a practice facility and an update to Moody. The situation is dire from a competitive standpoint. Having said that, Gramps can keep his friggin money and go away.

Stallion-
Am I forgetting about some coaches. I don't understand why people are acting like SMU fires their coaches "every two years". I think that they kept Dement for like 9 years and then Cavan for 5 Years and we all agreed that it was not the coach that failed but the model.
Again, not saying the handled this situation right at all, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't excited about Evans or Doh.
