Re: Wichita StateOnly 3 years in to a 5 year deal so he should get a nice severance check. WSU not satisfied playing close to .500 ball given their history of success under Greg Marshall
Re: Wichita StateLanier's seat should be getting warm if we don't improve a lot next year

Re: Wichita State
If we do not at least make the NIT next year, Lanier should be fired. Period. 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Wichita StateYou give any new coach three years to right the ship.
Re: Wichita StateDon't you thing the transfer portal changes the 3 year to right the ship?
Re: Wichita State
I'd say 3 years is a fair barometer. Lanier had to scramble to backfill a roster after Jank "retired" and K.D. and Bandoumel moved on, so this next season he has to put a much more competitive team on the floor and have a winning season that might help attract true impact guys by his 3rd season. Pretty tall order to improve on Jank's 24-9 NIT team in what was probably the best team that he recruited during his time at the helm. Lanier only gets one more year out of Williamson who is arguably the most talented guy he has, so his seat will undoubtedly be getting really warm next year if he can't significantly improve on this season's results.
Re: Wichita Statewith the transfer portal and NIL there is no excuse why a coach should not have a top level winning team in his second year. There are more than a couple who just built winning teams their first year. No excuses- just results.
Re: Wichita State
No. That's 2013 thinking. We have the transfer portal and we have NIL. Lanier has done NOTHING since stepping on campus to suggest he was the right hire. The team this year was abysmal and he's signed a grand total of ZERO recruits out of high school since being here almost a year. Right now it appears that, like Jank, he's using us to pad his retirement account. At least Jank could stumble into an NIT appearance every once in awhile. 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Wichita StateWe lost 9 games in the last three minutes. Had we won those we would have been 19-13 and been in the NIT. Most of those losses stemmed from poor free throw shooting down the stretch and bad shot selection by the players. So, it wasn't the talent, it was the execution at the end of the game. The question is who we get next year. Will Lanier recruit decent talent or not. Clearly, we need a couple of great free throw shooters and ball handlers for the end of the game.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Wichita State
Losing KD hurt us this year and just look at what he's done for Memphis. It starts with a quality PG and we didn't have one. That's Lanier's 1st priority as far as I am concerned but we need a top notch 2 guard as we did not have any reliable perimeter shooters, either. We also have to replace Odigie and find a low post threat. Lots to do to make this team significantly better next year
Re: Wichita State
Program needs to work its way back up to "mediocre". There's a ways to go.

Re: Wichita State
Time will tell but this looks like a good hire. He's shown he can build a winning program
Re: Wichita State
Right the ship? We made it to back to back NITs and it would have been 3 straight NITs if not for COVID-19. What ship is he righting? He was supposed to improve on what Jankovich did. I can understand arguing for giving him 5 years to make the NCAA tournament, but we should have been an NIT team this season. Next season the minimum expectation should be 20 wins and an NIT appearance. If not we are not serious about competing and might as well save our money and grab a $200,000/year coach and move down to a more regional conference to save on travel expenses.
