Rob Lanier doomsday clock
Too bad the doomsday clock on SMU basketball has already expired.
A long tradition of existence.

You can block individual posters, Bus.
Re: Rob Lanier doomsday clock
I saw most of their games on ESPN etc. To me, the team appeared to be well coached - they hustled and played good defence. They also shared the basketball. The problem was....they couldn't shoot the three.
They lost six of their last seven games. Their worst shooting performance was against Memphis - 5 of 24 from three-point range. Oddly, their "best" outside shooting was vs. Houston; they were 5 of 15.
In that 7-game stretch, they were 38 of 130 from outside the line - a shooting percentage of 29%. (Trust me, I did the arithmetic).
And yes, we need a point guard and another couple of forwards who can shoot. But Coach Lanier, at this time, is not the problem. Let's wait to see how he does with the transfer portal.

played good defense
Re: Rob Lanier doomsday clock
Watching KD win the AAC and in this march madness game right now makes me want an everybody doomsday clock.
Re: Rob Lanier doomsday clock
KD's stay in the NCAA tournament was brief: Memphis lost to FAU, 66-65.
Davis scored 16 points in 37 minutes.
True to form, Penny Hardaway threw something across the court as the clock ticked down to 0:00.

I am just thankful KD played hard for us. Sometimes winners can be a**holes.

Re: Rob Lanier doomsday clock
We lost too many games in the last 10 minutes. That is when good or bad coaching shows. This team needs a blockbuster transfer at point guard, a couple of above average perimiter shooters, and a legitimate locker room leader. I don't hear anything about any of these needs being addressed in a serious manner. SMU is not quick to pull the trigger on coaches who under perform. That needs to change. There are a few guys on this roster (Williamson for one) who are good support players and one legitimate superstar (Phelps). But Phelps was either asked or tried to do too much. He needs to play off point to meet his full potential which is very high.

A lot of HC openings this off-season. Very good hires at both Georgetown and St JohnΓÇÖs, two traditional basketball powerhouses. I imagine that Pitino wouldnΓÇÖt have been an option given what happened before but even at his age he is a great hire IMO.

Are you actually upset by this? Dude couldnΓÇÖt play defense! IΓÇÖm glad he can go somewhere and develop but was largely a below average 3&D player for us without the defense.

I tend to agree. Todorovic looked a step too slow to me and was a defensive liability. He will be better off somewhere he can get more playing time and get 10 or more shots every game. He definitely has potential to light up the scoreboard but needs to be with a program that runs more zone D to protect him defensively...not to mention I like the idea of another 'ship coming available so long as Lanier can attract some impact transfers. We are going to find out if SMU hoops can compete in the NIL era. Pony up!
