Why PAC teams won't head to Big XII
I knew the Big XII had sketchy academics, but this bad? Even Kansas is down there on the list.

impressive however, I doubt if we have surpassed Rice. That takes away some of the credibility of the report.

Rice is still well ahead of SMU at #15.
Re: Why PAC teams won't head to Big XII
Recently ( 2017 ? ), SMU was ranked as high as 53. UT was 52.
UT is now 38. We are now 72. Not too "impressive" in my book.

If anybody still thinks at this point that academics impact realignment well then, I've got a couple business deals I'd like to discuss with you.

SMU was definitely in the mid 50s when I went there 20 years ago. Was usually a point away from A&M. Thanks, Turner.

It matters to the PAC-12.

Myself: SMU undergrad and later grad school. We were always ahead of TAMU.
We still have better students but otherwise not. Turner has failed. Damned by
low expectations and a weak BOT. If we get the PAC invite then there is hope.
Crisis of leadership otherwise. Why is an Abilene Christian alum leading our
University? If in fact places like Brown and Emory are schools SMU wishes to
model itself after then why a lifetime appt for this west Texas man of little academic
learning? Food for thought.

These are excellent questions.
Re: Why PAC teams won't head to Big XII
Say what you will about Turner, but he has cultivated a lot of lucrative relationships with donors. I have disagreed with him about a number of issues over the years, but SMU is on par with UT in terms of quality of undergraduates and far ahead of Baylor and TCU by that criteria. Those of us on Ponyfans are likely of the majority opinion that Turner has not demanded much of our AD. But I suspect that the decision on Hart's continued employment will be based on the opinions of the really big cigars. If we get into the PAC 12 it will quiet the criticism. If not, then I hope that the powers that be will look for more dynamic leadership.

Re: Why PAC teams won't head to Big XII
TCU has raised more endowment money during Turner's extended tenor. Under at least three presidents. I've heard that, "but look at the money he's raised!" So what!
Any executive that stands in place over 10 years in a non-profit allows the firm to decay under his demands. We've needed new blood for over 20 year.
Turner, not Pye is most responsible for our dismal athletic performance for 30 years. Any time during his tenor he could have reversed the course. The only reason he is doing so now was the cost of his last extension.
But, its just not athletics, its the Law School, the Business School and Dedman that has fallen on hard times. No strong leader wants to join a company where one man is in charge of everything, and there is no hope of him being replaced.

This thread is getting boring with administration bashing as its focus.
