Re: Realignment Update
SDSU staying in the MWC pretty much negates our chances of moving up.
IMO the PAC will stay at 10 so they don't have to divide the money.
It would not surprise me if the PAC folded. Too many are willing to jump and it sounds like they are nowhere close to a deal. One article said they were 'accelerating' the process and hoped to have more news by the 21st.
Meanwhile we are still stuck in this 3rd level conference and no place to go.
Don't be surprised if a lot of players go the transfer route as they were expecting to be in a P5 conference.
Thanks to all the alums who spent a lot of time and money trying to improve our standing.

Re: Realignment Update
This was my question. Do they try to grab Tulane and us? Colorado State and us? I know the PAC said there was a drop-off after their 1 and 2 choices (SDSU and us), but apparently the conference is in a drop-off now and they may need one of their 3 or 4 choices.PlanoStang wrote:I think the real question is who replaces SDSU?

Re: Realignment Update
you have to wonder how much the media rights deals will change with no SDSU.

Re: Realignment Update
ESPN layoffs are a sign of the times for that industry. It makes for a much more complicated media rights deal as has been reported all along. From the WSJ:
ESPN is laying the groundwork
to sell its channel directly to
cord-cutters as a streaming
service in coming years.
Russell Wolff, a longtime
executive, left ESPN in April,
the Journal reported. ESPN,
originally acquired by Disney
in 1995, has helped the companyΓÇÖs bottom line, but the
network has lost subscribers
amid a decline in cable subscriptions.

Could be because of the price increases and/or the end of football and basketball seasons you think?Charleston Pony wrote:ESPN layoffs are a sign of the times for that industry. It makes for a much more complicated media rights deal as has been reported all along. From the WSJ:

Re: Realignment Update
I am sure they already had the value of SDSU. I guess now it will be recalculated to include school X.
Since this had drug on for so long and SDSU is committed for 2024-2025 I wonder if they might do the expansion at that time. We have a 27month window to honor as well. Just might be an idea.

Re: Realignment Update
I just find it hard to believe that if SDSU gets an actual, live invitation from the PAC12 that they don't take it, even if it's off for another year.

John Canzano offers the reason why a delay makes sense for the remaining ten members of the PAC-12.Hoofbeat83 wrote:I just find it hard to believe that if SDSU gets an actual, live invitation from the PAC12 that they don't take it, even if it's off for another year.

SMU is likely attached to the same timing as SDSU.

Re: Realignment Update
So this drama could go on for 12 more months. Nothing has to happen by July 21 any more if expansion is delayed until the 2025 season. But if it is, SMU could meet the AAC's 27 month window for announcing it's intention to exit the conference.
