BYU, UH, Cinci Bottom Feeders

Postby PlanoStang » Fri Jul 07, 2023 9:22 am

Brigham Young 11. Houston 12. Cincinnati 13. West Virginia 14. Central Florida 8. Of course in this media poll, Texas has been ranked 1. TCU 5.
May the forth be with us.

The Big 12 has been on an all out PR blitz to position itself as more than it is. No surprise that UT is the media pre-season darling. It usually is. But in light of the TCU/Georgia fiasco, the Big 12 has to find some way to justify its self-importance. After all, it has lost Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri, A&M, UT and OU. All state flagship schools. That leaves Kansas and WVU as its only flagships. Both are small states with no football history to speak of. In a few years, the Big 12 will be known mostly for its basketball.

Preseason and many early-season rankings are meaningless.

Consider: Froggy High was picked 7th IN THE BIG 12 before last season, and then had record success until it finally played a good team.

The best thing that happened to TCU last year regrettably was that their starting quarterback was injured. That forced Sonny to start the QB he had benched despite being far more talented than the coach's son he had to replace. TCU's loss to K State in the Big 12 championship should have disqualified them from the playoffs.

Not sure TCU deserved the # 3 seed but they did beat Michigan to earn the right to be whipped by the best team in college football last year. Say what you want but I would love to have had the year TCU had, not only in football but also making the NCAA bball tournament and College World Series. Sure hope we can beat them early this season before AAC play starts. Hopefully the transfer portal additions will help us become more competitive in both football and basketball this year.

Unpopular opinion time:

Boy did we get 'lucky.'

If the most successful kicker in Ohio State history didn't miss that field goal TCU wins the National Championship.

That kid had the No. 1 and No. 3 kick scoring seasons in school history, setting the single-season Ohio State record with a field goal percentage of 95.2% and if he makes it there is every reason to believe TCU can beat Ohio State. We'll never know, but I would have bet on Sonny to beat OSU and boy would that have been hard to watch.

Wherever Noah Ruggles is, I hope he's able to move on and get over that miss. I'd hate to think this would define him throughout his life. And I'm counting my blessings in more ways than one.

1) no way tcu beats OSU. OSU fixed whatever it is happened to them in the Michigan game. They would have plowed over the toads in a similar manner.
2) I would still take a 77-0 beat down in a national championship game
3) the B12 is a weak football conference. I believe it is the 5th best football conference at best (yes, behind the ACC and Pac 12, with USC and UCLA there). Teams in college football were down across the board last season. There was only one dominant team. OSU was down, Clemson was down, Alabama was down. Once USC and UCLA depart, along with UT and OU, I think both conferences will both be worse off.
4) I would prefer to be associated with the Pac 12 than the B12 even though travel schedules become more complicated. The schools there are much better to be associated with than the B12
5) all the schools from the American that went to the B12 have peaked, IMO. That is why they went there but they were overvalued given what they will contribute moving forward in terms of football.

It’s in the first post. Surely you understand preseason media polls.

77-0 beatdown in a NC game? Better to not have played at all. Frogs embarrassed
themselves on Nat Tv. Plenty of longterm reprecussions for them. Getting mauled
and dismantled like that should be a point of shame for those jerks . Patterson
was probably having a coronary as he watched. 2014 frogs would have destroyed
the gimmicky 2022 tcu squad. If SMU ever reaches the playoffs one can hope
we have a good enough Defense to compete with the best.

While Cincy stuggled sgainst Bama a few years ago, they held their own.
They deserved to be there. While they lost convincingly they represented the
AAC quite well. Certainly not bottom feeders in the Big 12. What big 12 team
( excepting 2021 ok state and 2022:iowa state ) ever played any D in the past
10 years? The last dominant SEC style D that the conference had was 2009 UT.
Both UCF and Cincy are going to do well. Little huustonnn will struggle. Book
is out on BYU short term though long term they certainly have potential.

At least we have a P5 conference to be a bottom feeder in.

When you develop a defense that can hold SMU to fewer than 77 points come back and we will talk then. BTW all of this Big 12 trash talk = a fan base of losers.

Interesting thought. Of course, we'll never know, but I tend to agree.
