The Big 12, without their flagships, cannot compete with Washington, Oregon, Cal and Stanford. For SMU finishing 5th to 7th in football is unacceptable. I apologize but I don't get what you mean. Research grants may be more than sports revenue. But so what? If there is a large enough sports media dollars disparity between the PAC and another conference, due diligence would require serious consideration if an invite came from the moneybag conference. And no one said that 5-7 place is ideal. Nevertheless it is unrealistic to believe that had SMU played in the PAC last year that we would have finished in the top 4.
That’s a legitimate question Answer - Since Utah left the MWC & Colorado left the B12 to join the PAC, their research dollars have increased by hundreds of millions of dollars The Average Research dollars for PAC-10 schools is almost $700M per year The Average Research dollars for B12 schools is a bit over $200M per year Hopefully this helps you understand why some on here are more confident than others about the PAC holding together ….as long as the B10 doesn’t poach any top-tiered academic PAC schools Remember, it’s University Presidents, not football fanatic Deion-types, who will make the ultimate decision low-IQ B12 fans seem to ignore this fact….including our PF visitor trolls As long as the PAC as we know it today exists (a big IF, i understand) SMU will be in a much better spot than Coog High or the Frogs How ironic, we’ll get the Last Laugh…….lol…………maybe $700M > $200M Stanford > West Virginia

When Rice won it’s National Championship in baseball years ago, it was the only time in my life i actively rooted for a SWC opponent to win a Natty I wish Rice would take athletics seriously (they won’t) I would love to have them as a future PAC partner, more so than Tulane. Unfortunately, i don’t see it happening. Rice would rather spend its $8B endowment on academics only

I went to SMU. I also went to TCU. I consider both "home." I have nothing against SMU (quite the contrary); the institution has blessed me far and above whatever I could return in kind.

If the Big XII is so afraid of us becoming P5 in another conference, there is solution. Invite us. Otherwise, you just make yourselves look weak and pathetic. Since the DP, I never have seen fear from UH and TCU fans like I’ve seen in the past few months. They are scared. And I’m enjoying it.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

I live in Fort Worth, I did not go to TCU. If I joined an SMU message board as a TCU grad and an SMU grad I wouldn't do it while promoting TCU, our biggest rival. Doing so would send the wrong message to my fellow SMU supporters. As my mentor likes to say, "that's poor form."

This has been pointed out to FF multiple times but he likes wearing that drama over here.

ESPN is very thorough on why the Pac 12 is struggling to get a media deal.
Media outlets that are would be competitors with a conference partner or engaging in back room talks for that conference's media rights are not the most reliable journalistic sources. Oh, and if the rumor mill about ESPN going bankrupt is corrrect, how much do you think the Big 12 contract will be worth then?

It would be interesting to see how much attendance is declining, because part of the reason is because of the increased media exposure. For every game at Michigan or Georgia that draws 100K or more, there are more and more fans who are able to watch their games at home through networks and streaming services like ESPN+. No need to travel, pay to park, stand in lines, vastly cheaper food, no lines at the bathrooms, etc. So in a way, the media package that offers increased exposure is also offering fans an altertative to showing up at games -- a metric that seems to be part of negotiating the next deal.

Not a good look for Northwestern. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/c ... 394594007/The only way Pat Fitzgerald is coaching Northwestern when the 2023 season begins is if one of America’s elite academic institutions has decided that a guy who calls football plays is worth more than the pain and suffering of young men who weren’t just hazed when they arrived in his program but were reportedly violated, defiled and humiliated as part of a twisted so-called culture that is 100% his responsibility and now 100% his shame. Even if you are naïve enough to believe that the person who has been leading Northwestern’s football program for the last 17 seasons didn’t know the exact ways that his upperclassmen were allegedly indoctrinating newcomers — or, as others may call it, sexual assault — Fitzgerald has utterly failed. He failed in his duty to protect young men and he failed their families, whose living rooms he went into and promised to treat like his own family. He failed to set a standard by which it would never occur in the first place for players in his program to do the vile things alleged Saturday by former players in the Daily Northwestern. He failed to be the man he spent an entire career pretending that he was. On Friday, Northwestern suspended Fitzgerald for two weeks this summer during a time when nothing much is happening in college football, expecting the cloud would pass by the time the real important work begins to make the Wildcats something other than the 1-11 embarrassment they were last season. They dropped the news in a vague press release announcing the vague results of a vague investigation into a whistleblower’s accusations of hazing within the program. Under the guise of an independent firm being unable to corroborate Fitzgerald’s culpability, they let him off with more of a pat on the head and an admonishment to do better — even though the firm itself said the accusations were “largely supported by evidence.” But Northwestern’s student journalists found more. A lot more. A sickening amount more. Accusations from former players that are so specific and perverse, it would be difficult to believe they are made up.

Realignment update? Does this mean SMU will get their spot in the Big 10 when they are kicked out? Maybe Northwestern, Penn State and Baylor could break away and form their own conference; the SAC?

My prediction - at some point a lawsuit will be justifiably be filed against NU, it will lead to multiple lawsuits, at which point the real truth will hopefully emerge
NU will pay for this, monetarily and otherwise
Fitzgerald and his staff are goners
50/50 chance someone above Fitz also gets their ticket punched
It’s a terrible look, no doubt
