Realignment Update

Re: Realignment Update
It’s last call at the bar. At that point it’s not time to be picky. One plus with the AAC if we build a dominant program it’s an easy walk into the playoffs. After awhile some conference will take us to open a spot for one of their teams.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Realignment Update
Again, I get it but that’s assuming there will be a Group of 6 seat at the table for long. P5 will eat those spots as soon as they can, so we must get out while we can no matter what it looks like. In 10 years there will be three tiers and we must do everything we can to avoid that third tier which is where we will be if we stay satisfied with our present situation.
Re: Realignment Update
ACC is where we should ultimately be. Eastern based, similar schools, and not the AAC.
Re: Realignment Update
Who cares about P5 if your P5 conference has no TV deal and all suitors are broke? 12 team playoff on deck.ShantyBoy wrote:True, but the PAC will still be P5, and we must get on that lifeboat while we can.

Re: Realignment Update
I hope so. Thank goodness those decisions are not made by a lot of folks on this board.

Re: Realignment Update
Don’t panic! So Colorado is gone, so what? I think the rest of the PAC will stick together and add SDSU sooner rather than later. My sense is that they will play as a 10 team league in 2024 and add 2 more teams in 2025. SMU and 1 other. My preference would be AFA taking Colorado’s place.

Re: Realignment Update
I think you could be right, but it might be SMU for 2024 since SDSU has its buyout clause. SDSU and another team would follow. Fingers crossed (although mine are starting to cramp from being crossed for so long).

Re: Realignment Update
How is it possible for the Big 12 to pay Colorado $31.7 M when the value of the TV contract is a fixed amount for the 12 team conference?

Yep; the PAC-12 is (at least for now) P5 just like the Big East was part of the P6 when we joinedShantyBoy wrote:True, but the PAC will still be P5, and we must get on that lifeboat while we can.

Re: Realignment Update
Wishful thinking on my part but I would MUCH prefer the ACC to the PAC which could soon become the MWC 2.0Dukie wrote:No news here, but another ACC-SMU mention:

In the Big 12’s new Grant of Rights, ESPN’s contract guaranteed pro-rata — the same revenue ($20 million per school annually) — if the Big 12 added additional Power 5 schools. FOX was not contractually obligated to match its revenue ($11.7 million per school annually), but the network has agreed to do so if the Big 12 added other Power 5 schools, sources told Action Network.
This guarantees Colorado — and any other Power 5 schools moving to the Big 12 — a full media rights share of nearly $32 million in the Big 12 starting in 2025, sources said.

Re: Realignment Update
IMO if the P12 doesn't have a media deal within the next 2-2 1/ weeks I would expect to see more defections. Members are getting tired of future promises. They need to add teams now instead of waiting. Their commissioner could have possibly destroyed the conference with his procrastination.
