Spoke with a #SMU booster today who tells me there is a group of donors willing to give SMU $200 Million over the next five seasons to compensate for the lack of distribution in the ACC. The donors believe SMU is in a now or never situation for entry in to a P5 conference.

Re: ACC considering SMU
Once again, SMU is very fortunate to have wealthy alumni who remain passionate about athletics and just want their alma mater to be able to compete at the highest level. As an east coaster who gets ESPN's ACC Network, I could really get excited about this possibility. Both my kids went to Clemson and I've come to know plenty of Clemson grads and fans so I would love to see SMU in Death Valley some day, but understand this kind of move might just be the ACC preparing for an exodus of their "brand names" as the article suggests.
Re: ACC considering SMU
"We will play for free for 5 years" is such a power move yet reeks of desperation of course. But, this is quite literally the last chance for a seat at the table...Administration needs to do anything possible to get this done.
Re: ACC considering SMU
If ACC comes true, I will be back in Moody for first time since the re-seat debacle with season tix in hand....that is if they fire the coach and quit wasting time first. That home schedule would be absurd
Re: ACC considering SMU
I agree that it’s do or die time. We have finally removed the self imposed death penalty shackles albeit 20 years late, and we will shine if given the opportunity. We bring MUCH more than Stanford or Cal football does. Stanford is currently in fighting the non sport California nut jobs in their administration and aren’t doing NIL. There is a reason for their current losing season streak, and they have just been knocked on their pompous asss. I think their desperation is going to be good for us. Here’s hopingΓǪ.

I think you are spot on.Hop Sing wrote:I think if Stanford and Cal are invited then we will be as well. A bridge to California and huge recruiting base. Playing in Dallas will help FSU and Clemson football

That's rich... Wouldn't it be a bit hilarious if Stanford and Cal not only had to tolerate, but be grateful to, a Catholic university?Peruna Power wrote:I think you are spot on.Hop Sing wrote:I think if Stanford and Cal are invited then we will be as well. Uhh, I would think "no" on that one, IPP.
Clemson and FSU leaving will be the catalyst for any change in the ACC. That isn't on the horizon, at least for this week. While I have always thought we were a better fit in the ACC, to quote the immortal Captain Ramius: ""Personally, I'd give us one chance in three. More tea anyone?"

SMU had also been bandied about along with Cal/Stanford, and those conversations aren’t headed anywhere either, per ESPN sources.

Re: ACC considering SMU
I wish Tulane had the financial wherewithal to match our offer to the ACC.
Geographically, academically, those would be a perfect duo to add and would move the needle for the blue bloods. If there was closer to $80 million being split between the members.
The ACC is desperate to add members, but only if it benefits, the existing schools financially. It looks like the only way this is going to work as if we find another ΓÇ£SMU dealΓÇ¥ which doesn’t appear to be out there at the moment.
Someone get Harvard on the line…
