ACC not over (?)

Post by Dukie »

No votes are UNC, NC State, Clemson, and FSU. Article only mentions Cal & Stanford.

SMU was dead on Wed with the ACC, not under consideration anymore. Guess we need to be comfortable in the AAC or see if there is a PAC/MWC merger with additions.

Is there an article, you are referencing, about SMU out of consideration on Wednesday?

Billy Embody on On the Pony Express reports we are still in play. Behind a paywall.

I can't listen behind the pay wall but I'm wondering if the ACC is talking football only now for CAL / Stanford?

It looks like only one vote is needing to be flipped. Maybe FL-ST will pull a SDSU and resign accidently and long enough that the rest can vote us in, in thier temporary removal from voting rights.

Someone get Mack Brown on the line and tell him it is ok to let SMU in. He is no longer at Texas.

Mack hates SMU. Goes back to when UNC visited the old Owenby in the 90s and pulled out a win in a close game with one of Rossley's squads. He went off in the post game on the SMU facilities and gameday atmosphere and said he would never bring his team back to play SMU. Think he called us Bush League. And I have to say that he probably had a point, since I think his team had a locker room over in the Dedman center and had to walk across a street to get to the stadium from the visitor's locker room.

UNC got a horribly biased call from the all ACC official squad to pull that one out.
May the forth be with us.

I suppose the current Dedman Center wasnΓÇÖt around in the ΓÇÿ90s. WasnΓÇÖt the renovation and Kansas game in 2000? My wife started teaching at SMU in 2002. One of the funnier innovations was adding a student party deck to the north endzone.

I think MackΓÇÖs assessment in 1994 was very short sighted and frankly unfair. I was at that game as a student. SMU had a waiver from the NCAA that allowed them to play at Ownby while they were still coming off the death penalty. At the time, OwnbyΓÇÖs capacity was well below the threshold for Division 1. So completely unfair.

The 'Big12 hates us' narrative is weak and childish. Win something.

I think Dedman Center was opened in the mid 70s. I remember playing an intramural basketball
game there. Ford Stadium was opened in 2000, and I remember thinking the student party deck that was added later to be removed before the next season was one of the more stupid ideas. Maybe if it was put in the south end zone which was popular with the students the last few years.
