The Athletic's 2023 rankings

Postby PerunaPunch » Tue Aug 22, 2023 11:57 am

SMU comes in at #50. I was curious to see how SMU might slot-in with some of the proposed conferences (according to the brain trust at The Athletic)

Watched CBSN's College Football preview show profiling the "contenders" in every conference. Tulane and UTSA were the only teams mentioned as contenders for the AAC title. Sure hope our guys can prove all the "experts" wrong...not unlike what Tulane accomplished last year

CBS rankings have SMU at # 53 behind both Tulane (22) and UTSA (31). TCU at #17 and OU at #26 offer early "opportunity" games

I know we are fired up, but when nobody else seems to see the potential we do, it’s a little concerning.

For instance, go to the Colorado 247 Board and you’ll see some posts about how they are going to destroy TCU (when there’s reports CU might have the worst lines in D1 football this year). Lots of delusional posts. Makes you step back and think “are we doing the same thing because we got a bunch of transfers?”

My take is no, we are not, we should win 9-10 games this year, but I also assume we could only win 8 if chips don’t fall out way.

Success this year should hinge on QB play. We have talented, but young inexperienced guys who are going to have to prove they can perform at this level
