First, our prayers and condolences to our colleagues and friends in Chapel Hill, NC. A remarkable university, campus and center of academic excellence.
Next, our move to the ACC seems like a huge game of leap frog and after years and years of almost, this is our path now. Thank you so much to our donor community! I was a freshman and in Houston for 95-21. As a Senior cheerleader I was also there my Senior Year 41-16 against Cougar High School. There was no greater revenge! It happened on the field and now it will happen in this realignment phase (and in the Stone Age I believe). Red and Blue till I die and I cannot wait for what's next! God Bless UNC administration, facility and students. Go Red, Go Blue, Go Mustangs, S - M - U!

Terrible situation at UNC’s campus tonight and prayers to famíliy of the víctim. Truly sad that this happens all too often there days.
I will say that if (when) we do get the invite to the ACC, this may be the proudest moment of being an alumnus of SMU since I graduated. These are exciting times, and I will even more proud once we become an R1 research university and then AAU school. To be able to achieve this hopefully in the near term is truly a proud moment for all alumns and anyone associated with the University. We should be very thankful to all the donors and to those donors that have supported this vision for many years. I am also of the belief, that this will bring in more donations to the school, increased applications from top-tier candidates, and continue to catapult SMU into an even brighter future.

Beggin' just like your boy Tilman did to get into the Big12
Not to mention the fact that SMU foregoing the TV revenue, the added exposure and donations and other financial windfalls that come with playing, and maybe even competing with, national title winners, contenders, and historical programs like Clemson, Florida State, Miami and others in the ACC is infinitely better than the pittance UH is being overpaid and over promised to play Tech and Iowa State every year. And there is absolutely no question that the ACC is the better basketball conference compared to B12, no matter what those blowhards say. Kansas is elite of the elite, Baylor and Tech have had some nice runs, but by no means elite programs on the whole, and Houston brings a recent run of success, and a short stint in the 70’s and 80’s of some good basketball, but otherwise is pretty pedestrian. ACC is UNC, Duke, Wake, NcState, UVA, Syracuse, Pitt, Louisville, GaTech, and other blue blood to above average basketball programs. It’s not even a reasonable debate. There may be a particular year that the B12 has a better lineup that year, but for overall basketball prestige, it’s ACC and B1G then everyone else.
I also think it’s pure delusion if anyone thinks the B12 has better basketball conference than the ACC. Certainly, the blue blood basketball programs like UNC, Duke, Louisville, etc, only Kansas can really be comparable. The B12 actually gains from the American schools they just added like Houston and Cincy, which are probably the most traditionally-strong basketball programs in the new B12 following Kansas. And, in terms of football, with the B12 losing UT and OU, the ACC is a much better football conference to the B12 - no question. Particularly, if you add ND as one of the country’s truly blue-blood football programs to this. Academically speaking, the ACC will be the best conference in terms of academic schools in the country, followed closely by the B10. We are going into quite an elite conference. Adding Stanford and Cal make this a truly elite academic conference (I think Louisville is probably the academic outlier).

Hey you forgot Syracuse in hoops. I realize we have been down a few seasons but we still had two F4 and multiple S16 appearances in the last decade. Jim Boeheim and the zone just retired. The new coach is pulling in 4 and 5 star kids. If he can coach on the sideline we'll be back in the Top 10 soon.
The one thing the ACC is tops at is Olympic Sports...SMU better bring it. I hope you guys can add Men's Lacrosse within 5 years.

TM, we have made two final four appearances in soccer. Took UVA to overtime a couple of years ago in the quarterfinals. Swimming is coming back with new and improved facilities. Golf and Tennis are in the mix every year. We have 4 US Amateur champions and 2 U.S. Open champions in golf and one NCAA individual champion. We are reigning National Champions in womens equestrian. We don't play men's track, baseball, or lacrosse due to Title IX. Men's Track had some success in the past with one indoor National Championship and several top 20 finishes, but the program got terminated. I think if we added a men's sport that would be it, because a lot of great football players are looking for a track program. Our former track coach was a great coach for throwers. And a world class thrower wanted to train under him and go to school. So the track coach asked June Jones if he had a scholarship available for this guy. June said, if he can play. That was Margus Hunt, who ended up in the NFL are leading the nation in blocked kicks.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Growing chatter out there in X world that Calford may get in and SMU may not have the votes. Not really sure how that would really work out financially to help the ACC, but Peruna's law keeps me from any kind of premature celebration on this thing. Have seen Lucy place the football out there so many times in the past to only have me land on my behind when I go for the kick.

Because TX turns out so much baseball talent, most people would assume that if SMU adds a new men's sport after joining the ACC it would be baseball. But I agree with you that SMU should look too add lacrosse instead. The reason is lack of area competition. SMU revising baseball must recruit against Texas, Aggie, Tech, TCU, Baylor, OU, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, and LSU for all that TX talent. But now that there is good high school lacrosse played in many areas of TX, including DFW, SMU would be The one and only Home team to sign those players. SMU could build a sound program quickly just by recruiting west of the Mississippi, focusing on TX, and emphasizing ACC membership.

When has twitter been right about anything? It's guys guessing talking to guys who work at a university who are guessing. Here's a guess. Nothing happens this week. But there's a meeting today! There's a meeting tomorrow! Games start this week! None of that matters.
