Re: From ACC
I would not be surprised if the four previous no votes will be demanding that all new school money membership be divided among those 4 schools, or at least heavily tilted toward them.

Re: From ACC
The ACC has already agreed that some TV revenue will be set aside to be earned by success. So a team getting into the Payoff or a NY6 Bowl, or the Final Four, gets a bonus. And many also are wanting another fund set aside to give bonuses for teams with the highest number of TV viewers. I am all for that too.PonyKris89 wrote:I would not be surprised if the four previous no votes will be demanding that all new school money membership be divided among those 4 schools, or at least heavily tilted toward them.
Debating all that is a key part of the slow down.
Re: From ACC
Pretty sure they already worked those things out, or there wouldn’t have been an official presidents’ call scheduled. Only delay now is because of the shooting—tho it does give time for schools to change their positions, of course.Graceland Tar Heel wrote:The ACC has already agreed that some TV revenue will be set aside to be earned by success. Re: From ACC
It seems a "no-brainer" to me that revenue should not be shared equally in any conference. Schools that generate TV ratings should be compensated accordingly and I have no problem with financial incentives for winning championships, post season appearances and success, etc... There are schools in almost every conference who have been doormats in either football or basketball for years and I've never felt they deserved an equal share of revenue being generated primarily by their conference mates who win and drive ratings

Re: From ACC
Yep! It is laughable the twitter morons saying SMU is bribing their way in. These conferences are business deals with a lot of schools involved and a myriad of ways to cut the pie.
Beat the hell out of anybody!
Re: From ACC
Our enemies have done everything under the sun to try to keep us down. This would be the ultimate slap in the face to be accepted into a superior conference. This is just angst. But I'll get excited once another vote is scheduled. And as someone said earlier, they aren't meeting for the fun of it.
Condolences to those affected by the NC tragedy.

Re: From ACC
Sam Neumann (no idea who this is), is now reporting that:
"That phone call has since been moved to Tuesday evening after the University of North Carolina had an active shooter on its Chapel Hill campus."
https://awfulannouncing.com/ncaa/smu-mu ... nsion.html
In addition, yesterday Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports is reported why there's some urgency to making a decision.
'The significant reduction of shares from Cal, Stanford and SMU is not permanent. The schools would see shares escalate over the course of the grant-of-rights, a binding agreement running through 2036 that they are required to sign. Also, the three schools will receive non-TV distribution annually from the league, including evenly distributed monies from the CFP and NCAA tournament as well as the additional revenue from the incentive pool.
There is some urgency in a decision. CFP commissioners meet in Dallas on Wednesday [i.e.tomorrow] to likely begin exploring changes to the playoff expansion format and revenue-distribution model, which Yahoo Sports examined in a story two weeks ago."

Another good article with some interesting tidbits from Yahoo Sports.

This is literally like pulling teeth. A tooth that’s been impacted for 30 years.

More like 37 years. (I'm measuring from 1986.)ShantyBoy wrote:This is literally like pulling teeth. A tooth that’s been impacted for 30 years.
Re: From ACC
I see 2 likely outcomes:
1) ACC adds us in the near future then Florida State, Clemson, etc get mad and leave
or
2) Florida State, Clemson, etc get mad and leave then ACC adds us later

My base case is that they vote in Stanford and Cal now. Then we hold out hope ACC falls apart, so we can join whatever is left of the smaller ACC schools. This could take years to play out, and we're stuck in the American indefinitely.

I share your SMUPTSD. But the math says the Cali adds only work with SMU.

Re: From ACC
I caution anyone taking victory laps or getting exciting. 18 years as an SMU fan / alum, all my warning signals are flashing.
I wouldn't be surprised to read an article one day that reads:
"SMU was set to join the ACC, they had all the votes, then the vote was delayed due to a tragedy at UNC and in that time everything changed..."
That's how these things play out for SMU. Always.
Hope I am wrong.

Oh I am there with you. I’ve been in this rodeo like y’all have been. I’m just saying if we don’t get in no one is getting added which the Mustang law of averages says is entirely possible.
