Revenue for next 7-9 years

Post by SmooBoy »

Totally understand taking it in the shorts not getting media revenue, for the ultimate sacrifice/price of getting into a Power 4 or 5. Besides possible increased donations and billionaire backing, what are the main sources of revenue? Please correct or add to this list:

~ Increased ticket sales and season tix for higher profile opponents
~ More applications to the university (no direct revenue but higher numbers get better students and return on investments, grants, merit scholars, better branding)
~ Better bowl payouts
~ Selling merch or marketing items via avenues not available with smaller conference

Appreciate any insight.

Two important that are missing from your list -

We get the built in increases in the TV package - just not the day one.

Tournament revenue. No big deal in the AAC - but the ACC send a ton of teams. Will be worth a few million day one.

Will be interesting to see if enrollment increases. Same for alumni donations. Have to capitalize on the sense of pride that is happening with this announcement. Pony up!

The foregone revenues of 9 x $7 MM per year (AAC TV revenues lost), discounted at 7% to present value is about $45 million. Not cheap, but what an investment our boosters are making! We will, as you point out, enjoy other and more enhanced and I for one feel confident that those lost revenues will be recovered easily in the form of donations, increased enrollment, ticket sales, shared bowl revenues and BBall tournament revenues.

This is a real turning point for SMU. Congratulations to our sponsors for their drive and determination!
