The first game back in 1989. That team had a lot of heart and their efforts and culmination of all the teams since helped get SMU back where it belongs. Forrest Gregg even said coaching that team was the best part of his entire football career.

I tend to agree because that's also in the time frame TV got much more involved with college football so the game was higher profile than those earlier games that weren't nationally televised or at least I don't recall them being nationally televised

ESPN only aired one game a week at that time. They aired the SMU/ Texas game. It was then replayed numerous times during the following week until the next Saturday when they would show the next live game. I believe a must have watched the replay 20 times although I was at the game in person.

Ganes I think should be on the list - 1963 vs Navy, and 1982 vs Texas Tech. Also the 1968 Bluebonnet Bowl win over Oklahoma.

I'd have to say the 1980 Holiday Bowl in San Diego v. BYU. Even though we lost on the final Hail Mary play, it was a great game. Considered a Classic Bowl Game by many...

Certainly one of the most publicized with the ESPN Classics showing it over and over and over and over again. Never makes it easier to watch how we melted down in that game!

Beat top 10 Houston at home with Tom Herman crying in the post game interview about how he could hear SMU celebrating through the walls.
