Doherty was probably the best candidate available (at a pretty expensive price tag by the way) considering the options we gave ourselves. I will root for the Mustangs and continue to give the same amount to the Mustang Club. (Its not my fault they blew the budget paying off Tubbs and paying off Doherty's buy-out clause and paying him a healthy salary). I want him to succeed and hopefully he'll do a great job. Welcome Matt. I have no clue what kind of coach he'll be. I do want to make one prediction however. After our first bad loss next year and we'll have one because the team will still be young, some people who wanted Tubbs fired will be the first to come on board and trash the job Doherty did. You can book that one.
Best candidate available considering the options we gave ourselves? This guy would be a great hire for a winning team. For a team that preformed as poorly as us this was a GREAT hire. Granted we paid quite a bit to get him it appears. But if that is genuinely he case, then I am excited we have stepped up to the plate to bring in an established coach rather than set the bar lower based on salary. Very excited.
Re: the cost ... I liked the fact that Steve-O called Coach D (among other things) a great fund-raiser, and talked about how he (Doherty) understands the finances needed to reach and maintain top-25 status. Sounds like there will be some hand-shaking and baby-kissing and some expensive golf tournaments coming up.
i would like to know what is coupled in the incentives part of the $600k. conference champs? conference tourney champs? does it include buyout? i can't imagine him getting paid 400k+ just out of the box.

i got his and tubbs salries mixed up. i still can't see him getting a lot more than 400 (i.e. 550, 600) for his base. but then again, that's probably not the case.

Ikus, All they have to do is keep Gerald Ford and his Forbes Magazine estimated $1.5 BILLION net worth happy and you can get all the fund raising you need. It will also be interesting to see what happens with Grandpa Williams gift giving after what has happened. He also has the wherewithal to write a SIGNIFICANT check, especially with oil at $75/bar, if he feels that he needs to make amends for his role in the fiasco. (I'm sure that even Hoop Fan would be willing to forget if he wrote the right check.) Round it out with the Hunts, Sewells, etc. and you don't have to glad hand too many supporters to come up with some serious JACK! Ford, however, is the easy way to reach the HOLLY GRAIL - a new and improved Moody and a new practice facility! ![]()
