Coaches is actually more relevant since they look beyond the records.

Still not in the AP top 25 and looking up at Sunbelt & Conf USA teams including a JMU squad coming off a loss at home. Meanwhile we are undefeated in conference play with a competitive loss to OU, and at our rivals on the road (even if that loss hasn’t aged well). Our SOS is so weak, you can only play who we have scheduled. Tulane is only as high as they are due to last year’s success and also staying undefeated in conference play. Really bad sign for the AAC unless some more teams become competitive. So glad we are in the last few weeks of this conference. Let’s take a title on the way out of town

Winning that game @ Memphis was huge when you consider their only 2 losses coming into that game were @ Missouri and vs Tulane...both ranked teams so that will get people's attention. Need to take care of business and win convincingly against Navy and ultimately it will come down to beating either Tulane on the road or UTSA at Ford to be in consideration as the top G5 program

I thought the championship game would be in New Orleans no matter who won.
Long live Inez Perez!

There you go thinking again! The team with the best record or highest ranking in the CFP gets to host. I'm not sure if we would get to host UTSA because we could be 10-2 compared to UTSA's 9-3 or whether they only consider conference records in which case we'd both be 8-0. UTSA's non-conference losses to Houston, Army & Tennessee should hurt them more than our losses to OU and TCU and if we can beat Navy convincingly we might sneak into the CFP Top 25 and qualify to host?

While it would be nice to host the championship game,
We really need Tulane to win and host us in the Championship game. That game would then be for the NY6 bowl. If Tulane wins, they are a lock. If SMU wins, we should jump Toledo and Liberty in the final CFP standings based on beating a CFP ranked team.
It would still be possible to get the NY6 bowl with a win over UTSA in the Championship game, but would be much more dicey. Beating UTSA may not be enough to get us above Liberty/Toldeo.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

Beating a ranked team on the road (though certainly like home games) would boost us more in the rankings than a home win.

Liberty has not played ONE SINGLE P5 school. Not one. Nor have they played anyone from arguably the two best G5 conferences (AAC and MWC).
But yeah, sure -- #22 in the AP Poll.

The game we probably should have not scheduled was OU. Replace OU with a cupcake and we are sitting at 9-1 and ranked in all polls, including the CFP.
