Hoop Fan, now that you mention it, I don't remember whether or not Dez was there. I don't remember him not being there, I just don't remember one way or the other. Anyone?

Matt Williams was there. I would remind everyone not to visit the sins of the (grand)father on the (grand)son. Whatever went down, I don't think it had anything to do with Matt, since he was out for the year with an injury and in street clothes the whole time. It had nothing to do with playing time.

not the "whole time". Check the season stats on smumustangs.com, he played and he was in uniform several times. I've been told by people who usually know these things long before this went down that Matt had inquired about why he wasnt getting more playing time and run with the first string early on. Sorry but you cant separate the actions of gramps and son completely.

I feel like you CAN seperate the actions of the 2. I can very well understand the hatred for Max. There is proof that he was involved but Matt? Okay so he complained about not getting playing time, that means we can blame him for what his grandfather did? I think that is a bit of a stretch. Hate Max- he has done something. Until we at least have a decent rumor about Matt, let the kid play ball in peace.

I agree, he has the right to play ball in peace: transfer. Go to TCU and light it up for all I care.

You WOULD say that Tubbs Fan. Only you could wish a kid to transfer from us, to our hated rival, to light it up, just to defend your boy Tubbs and destroy any and everything that had a part in his demise.

Very few people want to see us beat TCU as much as i do. There are some personal reason for that. My point is that the Williams family could not hurt us any worse than they already have even if Matt went to TCU and beat us 4 straight years. That would pale in comparison to the long term effects of Burgergate and its handling.

The bitterness is getting old. Ripping our coach's attitude and appearance? GQ and arrogant. Come on. HF, what would your reaction be if I said Tubbs had no fashion sense and appeared to have to little confidence?

I bet you'd say that opinion was silly and petty.

what? What is bitter about the reference GQ? And he does come off as somewhat cocky. I don't mean it in a bad way and I dont think anyone has taken it that way except you. I am sincerely saying that Doherty has an image that fits SMU. Tubbs probably did not. I noted that about Tubbs when we hired him for godsake. He was never gonna be a babykisser in the SMU sense. Thats not a major knock either.

I think destroying the people that set up and knocked down Tubbs for selfish reasons is particularly appropriate. Transfer, Matt. SMU: banish Max.

Now that's not true -- someone else said here yesterday that TCU was his second-favorite team because they showed that a private school could win with JUCOs or something.

FYI: that was sarcasm. It was written, but it was sarcastic as a defense. Does anyone else see how silly this is? I'm a late arrival to SMU sports, and I can't believe some of the pettiness between people. SMU just hired a great coach, or at least a guy who has shown indications he can be a great coach, and people are talking about running off a kid who is RELATED TO someone who appears to have been in the middle of the previous coach's exit? Coach Tubbs is gone. A good man, I gather, and we can all wish him well. People, SMU has landed a big name, and not an over-the-hill guy with no energy left. Coach Doherty seems like a guy who can't sit still, whether it's on the sideline or the recruiting trail. SMU fans should be universally excited, not taking shots at each other.

Maybe I was seeing something that wasn't there. As someone who spent six years at SMU, I don't feel that saying someone fits the "SMU image" is a compliment. And I doubt you meant it that way either.

Sorry, but I've never heard people talk about SMU's arrogance and high fashion, and mean it in a positive way. Seemed like a backhard compliment to me.

wait, I didnt mean it as a gushy compliment either. Just an honest observation of whether our alums would respond to him. The SMU image is what it is. We can acknowledge it or hide from it.

Ok jt, here's a hypothetical for you. You have a grandson that you are very proud of and rightfully so - he has sailed through law school - law review, the works. As head of a large and well known law firm, I hire him. Oh happy day for the stang family!!!! My firm goes up against you and you win a case by treading in some very murky water. You may have stepped over the line, maybe not but it doesn't leave a very good taste in my firm's mouth and a lot of folks in the legal field wonder about what you did. Grandson by the way is a pretty decent kid - kind of cocky with a sense of entitlement about him - and a pretty good lawyer. I squash him like a little bug because I am sooo pissed at you. In fact, I do everything possible to make him pay now and in the future because hey, he falls in the shadow of your tree......................What do you think, gramps????????????
