With SMU trailing by 2, Phelps hip-checks Bennett twice ΓÇö no whistle

Then Phelps snatches a steal ... and rolls the ball out of bounds ΓÇö officials are reviewing who touched it last

OUCH ΓÇö officials award ball to SMU ... then correct their own call. Dayton ball with 16.5 seconds left

Dayton just took its last time out. Neither team has any left.
Feels like each team has called 100 this half

Not to be too harsh, but Phelps big misses the 3, messes up the out of bounds, misses the layup, then you call his number to take the last shot at time expires? Go for the 3 instead of the 2 to tie it? Baffling.

Brutal loss. I don't think this group is going to have much success. I'd expect us to be NIT caliber this year at the very least but we'll be lucky to win 16 games.

Sorry but Phelps is not the guy I want taking a three to win or lose the game. Should have your best 3 point shooters on the floor in that situation even if Zhuric is the guy you consider your best player. Harris had an off night shooting and Brea was on fire for Dayton. That was the difference in this game. These are the kind of games SMU has to win at home if we want to even sniff the NIT this year. That's 2 opportunities lost in Moody this year and now they probably have to win @ ASU, FSU & Murray State because I think this team might struggle to finish above .500 in AAC play

I agree with CP. That last shot was completely predictable. Hence, easy to defend.

Let me guess…Williamson rallied after an awful game V WISC to contribute 11 points 5 boards and 4 assists? How close am I??

He seems to be in foul trouble most of the time.

After watching the A&M, Wisconsin, UL Monroe, and Dayton games, I'm disheartened about where this program is heading into the ACC. What I see right now is a program that is not currently set up to be even remotely competitive in the ACC next season. It does look better than last season, I'll give it that.

So as i've been saying for 18 months, are we really going to keep heading this direction?

It is EXTREMELY obvious we are headed the wrong direction and it's been that way a while. Zero recruiting, constant losing, empty arena....the writing is and has been on the wall.

We are going to the ACC for crying out loud. Act like it and get it right..this is obviously not the answer

Simply just wasting time here.

A shame SMU went so cold down the stretch and turned a 5 point lead into a 5 point deficit with a minute to go.

Was definitely a strange call to have Phelps take the last 3 pointer. If you want Phelps taking the last shot, fine, but it needs to be a quick drive to the basket, not a 3 point shot.

Hell, he put up a 3 point shot the previous possession from the exact same spot and hit the top-side of the backboard. Luckily it caromed off and Harris swished a 3. If we wanted to shoot a 3 to win it, it should have been Harris, not Phelps.

Just like the Wisconsin game, that is another L that could have easily been a W. That is two we have given away to quality opponents.

I still think that SMU can finish 3rd in the conference, much easier with no Houston or Cincy.

Lanier deserves one more year to see what he can do in the AAC and how the next class looks.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

If Lanier can lead this team to a 3rd place finish he absolutely deserves a shot in the ACC. FAU & Memphis look better than our guys and from what I've seen early this season I think Wichita State, UNT, UAB, Tulane and probably others are going to be tough for this SMU team to beat
