Per several social media reports, cornerback William "Speedy" Nettles of Mesquite (Dallas Christian), Texas, has committed to SMU. Previously committed to Purdue, Nettles (5-11 / 170) chose SMU over offers from Purdue, Nebraska, Baylor, Boston College, Charlotte, Colorado State, Duke, Georgetown, Houston, Howard, Indiana, Kansas, Ole Miss, Texas A&M Commerce, Texas State, Tulane, Tulsa, USC, Utah State, UTSA

Nettles felt like an SMU lock before he committed to Purdue. He's really active on social media, he was on campus a ton ... great to have him in our class.

Happy to hear he's staying home and will play in front of his family and friends, all while being able to travel to the east coast to play some big-time schools.

I think SMU will fare well in the DFW area between NIL and the ACC. As coach said there's a lot of guys who want to stay home and play here but in the past our G5 status held them back
