Times to ChangeIF this stuff happens... wow, turner did one hell of a job and so will the rest of the athletic program.. I can barely sit down i am so excited about all of this..
Facilities improvements: President Gerald Turner and incoming athletic director Steve Orsini said there's a sense of urgency to build a practice facility and upgrade Moody Coliseum. Orsini said $4 million has been raised for the $12 million project. Game management: Have cheerleaders at every game and play more modern music to attract a younger crowd. -mustang band, please don't take this the wrong way, but yall can play more modern music, every other band in america has their own rendition to modern music -smu needs a better sound and PA system(period) Assistant coaches: Doherty said he'll bring in James Stafford and Malcolm Farmer from his staff at Florida Atlantic. Doherty hopes to add associate head coach Rex Walters if Walters doesn't get the Florida Atlantic job. But Doherty needs an assistant coach with Dallas roots to help bridge the gap between the school and the DISD. -I suggest Chris Dyer.. head coach at SOC, great repor w/ DISD coaches.. been around Dallas for years.. Market SMU to Dallas: Orsini has a strong marketing background. Monday, Orsini and Doherty were talking about making SMU Dallas' college basketball team. SMU should be able to draw more than the 3,000 fans per game it averages. -bring back a sense of Mustang Mania...
Re: Times to Change
Actually, I would be more apt to getting rid of the stupid pet tricks and basketball dribbling, jump roping kids that are as much of a beat down as some of the games themselves.
Re: Times to Change
ditto to the halftime entertainment.
we aren't every other band in america. we don't have louie louie charts, and we don't play land of 1000 dances. we play jazz, and we play it well. Sir, shooting-star, sir.
Frosh 2005 (TEN YEARS AGO!?!) The original Heavy Metal.
um....you do play land of 1000 dances, unless you suddenly stopped this year
As to the other halftime entertainment...while I do get bored with a lot of it, the only thing that really disturbs me is when they ahve those kiddie dance teams come in with girls who might be 10 dressed up as though they were about to be turned loose on the street corners. That's just wrong. The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
you MUST have land of 1000 dances confused with another song. i would die the day we played it. Sir, shooting-star, sir.

Re: Times to Change
What, you don't love 1000 dances and its Kehler-ific alternative lifestyle-ness?
Well, unless things have changed that much from last year, you play about 40% jazz/jazzish, 50% pre 1985 rock and 10% other.
I don't think so.....unless Don and Tommy pulled it from the repetoire this past year. The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
Chris Dyer has been the HC at DeSoto for several years....won a state championship in 2003. As far as I know he never coached at SOC or in the DISD.
we didn't play it this year. i negate anything queerler did while he was here. Sir, shooting-star, sir.

your right.. as soon as i read , Mays head coach at SOC, i could not remember exactly where he coached.. but your right desota.. brain fart on my part
Mustang Band, we love you, you're all the spirit Moody has some times, but to say "we play jazz" and leave it at that is absurd.
At a basketball game, your job is to get people pumped, and if that means playing Black Sabbath instead of Winton Marsalis, so be it. As a current student I am constantly frustrated by the fact that we never, ever play current music. At football games I hear the fight song 5,000 times like its the only song the band knows.
Okay, Multimedia, I agree with some of what you said, but you stepped over the line. At football games, (a) the band plays lots of other songs during time outs and end of quarters, which is about the only time ANY band can play something other than their fight song or some high school BS like Mess Hall, the Darth Vader theme, or the like, and (b) a college band SHOULD play their fight song or other spirit-related song MANY times a game. And if you listen to (or attend) any game between two bigtime programs with bigtime band, what you will mostly hear is their fight song (think Notre Dame or Michigan) or some shortened version of it (think Texas) or at least some repeated recognizable fanfare or theme (think USC or about any SEC school) MANY MANY MANY times a game. At least as many as you hear the SMU fight song at SMU games. Funny thing is, while the repeating of a tune that symbolizes the school and encourages the fans to join in is hated by opponents of those other schools, it is loved and celebrated by its own fans. For some reason, this is about the only school I am aware of where the band is actually belittled and criticized for playing its own spirit songs and trying, however ineffectually, to get those in attendance to join in with a unified cheer/clap/song.
