Sounds like a really solid pick up. Another example of a local north Texas kid now wanting to play closer to home while still playing in a P4 conference next year. From watching yesterday’s game, I think we need a WR, more depth across the lines and a more physical back.

You're right, of course. Thanks for catching that.

the transfer portal has closed. IMO we did not fill many of our positions of need. What happened to RLs recruiting?

My understanding is that official visits for those who entered the mid-year portal continue through Jan 7, and that there will be additional portal openings prior to the end of the school year (I think there is a Spring portal or something like that). So I don't think this is done.

Basically, the portal has closed except for those players who just played in a bowl game and they have an additional five days - closing of the portal means you can’t come out after the portal closes but if you’ve already entered the portal you can commit to a team which will be non-binding - only after you go to class are you officially committed? For SMU that day is January 16

the spring portal is april 15-30. that means those we pick up at that time will not be here for spring practice, they will just start learning the system in the fall camp.

What happened to our recruiting? We lost both quality and depth this year and have not done much to fix it. We needed lots of big uglies and only got a few.
This is a potential problem since we will be playing much tougher competition next year. We saw how BC pushed our guys around the second half and their team is not even in the top half of the conference. Next year could be really ugly for us.

According to On3, SMU brought in the #6 rated transfer class in the country, which would be #3 in the ACC.

This included two 4-star OLs and three 4-star DLs (plus a 3-star DL from West Virginia).

So, what exactly were you expecting?

last year one of our biggest strengths was our depth on D. by late 3rd q most other teams were worn out and we were still pretty fresh thanks to our rotation.

IMO we need to add more quality and quite a bit more depth to survive our first season with the big boys.

I won't argue with that. I was certainly wishing Dontae Levingston hadn't opted out during the 4th qtr. of the Fenway Bowl. I think he would have made a difference.

That being said, with the guys we have coming in, our pass rush ought to be WICKED next year.
