Now that our 15 minutes are over

Postby Duke Blue Blood » Tue Apr 25, 2006 11:59 pm

What is Doh going to do? We have spots available and academic requirements that will make it tough for a JUCO to come in quickly.
I think he is in a tough position.

While I have said this is not my favorite hire, I still want SMU to win.

Pretend you are the new head coach at SMU.....what is your #1 move.

I would think that he made a deal to make it easier to get JUCOs in here. I expect to see a couple of decent players who we normally wouldn't think were possible show up. We can't have an embarassingly bad year or Doh's recruiting will be very hurt.

1. Recruit the hell out of Arthur and others.
2. Start recruiting Jrs for next early signing period, get commitments before June - show he's a force to be reckoned with.
3. Skim the juco's

Storm the offices of every HS and AAU coach in Dallas and don't leave until the air is cleared.

Banish Max Williams from any contact with the basketball program.

After the DISD gets thru with him his first move may be back to Florida or North Carolina.

"DISD" is a collective noun. Could someone be more specific as to who, exactly, is going to wreak havoc on the SMU basketball program? (and to what end?)

(D)o (I)n (S)MU (D)aily. Just having a local coach say that SMU is not welcome at their school is a sign that a better PR campaign should be considered. I get the impression that MD is not extremely worried about it at this time, and he gives the impression that he can mend some fences. I just want the young kids playing in their driveways to imagine themselves hitting the last second bucket against Memphis for the Championship being a Mustang rather than a Longhorn, Tarheel, Gator, etc. When that happens we will get our share of players from the Dallas area.

Come on guys, this is wearing thin. Give him a chance. When we hear the story that he was kicked out of every DISD gym and no coaches will talk to him, then we can [deleted] and moan. I just don't see that happening.

It might be awkward very early, but I bet he can win them over. He is very charismatic, an imposing figure. He can talk about what it was like to start on a team with Michael Jordan...what it is like to play AND coach in a final four, show his championship ring....talk about the players he has coached and recruited....talk about what his vision for SMU and Dallas is, talk about our facility upgrades. Hell, he could probably even bring some big names with him every now and then.

The first thing he should do is debunk the myth that the DISD won't work with him while trying to fill out our roster.

Sorry. It was just a joke. Lighten up. I have witnessed 20 years of mediocrity in the good years. I have not posted one negative about MD, quite the contrary. I was an Evans fan, but just listening to MD in his short time here has me excited that he, with the proper backing may be able to accomplish something. If you are going to be an SMU fan and take life too serious, good luck.

The first thing I'd do is forget about 2007 and aim toward 2008. There ain't anybody left who is going to help this program. Arthur is long gone and only guys like GRGB and MM65 who believe in the tooth fairy think we got a shot at Arthur. Now I'd still make the call to Ronnie Morgan even though his coach indicated he's looking elsewhere because quite frankly I don't think his other options are really that appetizing. The focus of my recruiting would be on Division 1A Transfers-there ain't any good JUCOs left except for the marginal JUCOs that schools are trying to sneak in the back door. SMU is going to suck next year anyway focus on 2008 with Division 1A Transfers-that is if SMU really has changed it policies. If this option is not availiable then the rebuilding job at this university just got a helluva of lot longer because the cupboard is empty in the lower classes including 2007 except for Fall. Most of all-DON'T give out anymore scholarships to lifetime benchwarmers-we have way too many as it is. Save the scholarships if you can't get a worthwghile player this late.
