For starters, lets see if Doherty will bring Ritter back. I am thinking he WILL if there are no good players to be had in this signing period. If he doesn't, we then we all the sudden have 4 scholarships.
Will Doherty want Nyam and will Nyam still want us? No idea. I agree saving all our scholarships is not in our best interest. If we brought noone in and lost Bhop and Morris there would be some very serious depth issues. I still think JT inherrited a much better situation than MD. Morris is not going to be here, so we can't include him in our judgement, just as we wouldn't include DRob had he decommitted when Dement was canned. Dement left a much better roster for Tubbs than Tubbs left Doherty, for the reasons stated above in my pervious post, in my opinion. I still think we have a very good shot at Morgan. As people have stated he isn't extremely highly recruited and while its true the Tubbs firing has hurt our relations with DISD, maybe recruits are looking at Doherty's hiring the same way that D-Rob and Pearson have been. Both those guys appear to be excited about bringing on a coach of MD's pedigree from the quotes I have read. I think Doherty will pull 1 JUCO and 1 highschool kid- and I don't think he will be the type to offer someone just for the sake of ofering someone.
I think that there is no chance at Arthur, if SMU are going to keep the 'ships, SMU should keep calling until he commits to Indiana, OU or LSU or whoever.
I agree that Morgan will probably come around if he wants to play anywhere. I am not suggesting tying up 4-5 years with the three scholarships, but if you can find a juco that can give you anything more than a walkon can for two years, you consider it.
Eugene Spates the kid SMU was about offer before Tubbs was terminated is still availiable and in his last report he seems completely confused at his next step after the SMU deal fell through. Don't think he has a lot of great prospects either. He is 6-8 JUCO with Ike Ofoegu type stats who was originally was from Dallas Hillcrest.
I think the rule you are referring to was cancelled. Heck, I think Texas Tech might sign something like 19 new players this year. I'm kidding, but its absurd how much turnover Knight has on his roster.
Ya, Knight has been the top proponent of getting rid of the limitation rule. He certainly takes full advantage. Our conference mate Penders at UH also capitalizes on the ability to turn rosters over. They will be a very tough squad again next year and I fully expect to see them in the NCAAs.
About all you can do is possibly offer a potential late qualifier and hold your breath, and maybe sign a decent role player from either the JUCO or high school ranks, and then focus on filling all your scholarships in the freshman class starting Fall '07. Yes, it would be a huge class, but it would be a team that could mature together. For example, pick next years top rated high school team in Texas and offer all their seniors, together as a package deal and see what happens. The team will stink next year anyway. But if your team shows up, works hard every night, and never quits, they will start to win over fans. And spend a lot of time grooming Fall by teaching him jump hooks.
Has anyone heard a DISD coach say anything like that, or are we just believing potential BS spouted by an AD?
SMU has offered MUCH MUCH more than that this year and only got an obscure Prep player from the East. Not saying its 100% accurate but Rivals lists SMU with 13 offers and that doesn't include Spates and Ronnie Morgan who we believe SMU offered at least orally. That would be 15 offers and only one obscure commitment.
Someone, I think from Kimball, in one of the articles said SMU was not welcome at their school. Might not have been a coach but it could well have been someone who invites or uninvites people on their campus.
