I like signing local players and hopefully there will be several family and friends coming out to see him play and helping to boost attendance.

Deion has said he's not a fan of collectives and doesn't intend to compete for guys who want to test the "free agent" market. He wants guys who aren't about the $$$ but want to come play for a staff that can develop them as players to reach their full potential. Coach K once said he didn't believe in recruiting "one and done" players for Duke's bball program and we know how long that lasted. If you want to compete, you have to change with the times.

That statement seems wildly hypocritical on multiple levels coming from Prime Time.

No kidding. He has commented regularly about this, and not in the way portrayed there. I remember one interview in which he (paraphrasing) basically admonished the media for talking about NIL deals, saying that now that NIL was legal, players have every right to chase the money ΓÇö something like "you talk about coaches getting the bag (big money) ... why can't the players?" He has openly supported players chasing money.
