Memphis gets huge NIL pledge

Post by PonyPride »

From ESPN.com:

MEMPHIS -- FedEx on Friday pledged $25 million over the next five years to be used in sponsorship deals with University of Memphis athletes, a huge boost for the school's name, image and likeness compensation efforts.

The Memphis-based shipping giant said the program will initially focus on football, men's and women's basketball and other women's sports. The deal was facilitated by Altius Sports Partners, a company that works with dozens of schools on NIL activities.

The deal is for $5 million per year, an especially significant sum for a school that does not play in a wealthy power conference. The Tigers compete in the American Athletic Conference.

Hope springs eternal.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Good for them. Happy for the Memphis area and the school.
A power conference invite awaits them soon.

Memphis and USF are logical candidates for Big XII/XVIII expansion at some point

As a native Memphian, Fred Smith has gone to bat time and time again for both the city of Memphis and that school.

I honestly don't know where the city would be without him.

LeopoldΓǪif it wasn’t for Fred Smith, Memphis would be Shreveport. I lived there 10+ years ago in one of the suburbs - something like 2500 FedEx employees lived in our community, influencing over $1B in residential home values and representing almost 20% of our community populationΓǪsame could be said for Memphis proper and the other burbs. There’s power in those packages, and yes, good for the Tigers, even though they have some of the most chip on the shoulder / miserable fans on the planet.
