Keelon Russell
He will visit Alabama May 31st. Keep fingers crossed. He may be very difficult to keep
Re: Keelon Russell
Supposedly Texas is loading up to go after him, too

Re: Keelon Russell
How sweet would it be to beat Alabama for a guy playing the most important position on the team?

We are really playing with the big boys now. Holding onto him will be huge.

Reminds me of the days when June Jones was making home visits to try and steal low 3 Stars from North Texas, NOT.

Re: Keelon Russell
Obviously Mr. Russell is uber-talented. But beyond just the stats, I think he's the exact type of player to run Lashlee's offense. And he would seem to be the type of marquee player that other local Dallas stars (if you'll pardon the pun) will coalesce around.
I really hope he sticks. I love that the Mustangs are truly becoming Dallas' college football team.

Sure seems like the entire sports world thinks SMU has no chance of holding onto Keelon. Hope the pundits are wrong and he decides to stay home and help put SMU back on the map

Wow, SMU battling it out with Alabama over top Texas recruit--flashback to when Craig James' recruitment was contested out of high school in Houston.

Of course in James' case SMU had the advantage of his girlfriend/future wife having chosen SMUPaladin wrote:Wow, SMU battling it out with Alabama over top Texas recruit--flashback to when Craig James' recruitment was contested out of high school in Houston.

Starting to really look doubtful we can keep him.

Looks like he flipped. But in this world of the portal, you maintain a good relationship and you never know. We may not have seen the last of Keelon.

Re: Keelon Russell
Just saw it on the ESPN crawl and his Twitter account, but not overly surprised after all of the speculation in recent days.
Yes, it's disappointing ... but it's also evidence that as far as recruiting goes, we're now playing with the big boys.
Considering the offense we run and the WRs on the team, it seems more than likely Coach Lashlee will be able to find another stud who wants to play in this offense.
Also, it's not like we don't have options. Stone, Jennings, Luster, Aronson ...
I agree with 1983 Cotton Bowl: if Russell ever decides Bama isn't for him, I'd be surprised if he doesn't consider coming home.

Re: Keelon Russell
When Bama comes out and says a player is their #1 target at such a critical position, it's going to be hard to compete with the kind of money that is probably being thrown around. I agree...just stay in touch and if Bama doesn't work out for him, maybe he will still come home later in his career. There's going to be pretty stiff competition already at QB here the next couple of years so he certainly had no guarantee of early playing time and I'd be surprised if he does at Bama but who knows?
