Question about SMU at Duke

Post by 1983 Cotton Bowl »

In my almost 3 decades of SMU fandom, and having attended many home games, I have attended an SMU road football game on only one occasion. For the record, it was the 1997 game at TCU. For those old enough to remember that beauty, I'll leave it at that.

This year, however, I am planning to drive up to Durham for the SMU-Duke game with my son. Since I don't really have experience with this, what is the best way to get tix for a road game? Do you just use Stubhub? Buy them through SMU? Buy them through Duke? Any pro tips are welcome. Thanks.

You can get better tickets through StubHub or SeatGeek.

You can sit with SMU players' families and help SMU athletic department by buying through SMU ticket office.

Your choice.

Thanks for the info. I think the Duke stadium is pretty small and I'm not sure where you are sitting matters that much. So all things considered I'll probably go through SMU to help the program. I'm assuming they will make some kind of announcement when road game tix become available for sale?

Wish I could join you guys, but the MIL is having her large number Birthday party that day, and I value my marriage more than the Mustangs. I will be at the UVA game however. And if my farmhouse gets finished, I'll have a party that weekend (we're an hour away from Scott Stadium).
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

IΓÇÖd buy through SMU. Wallace Wade Stadium is a horseshoe, and the visiting section is at the far end of the visitorsΓÇÖ corner of the horseshoe. Even if both teams are ranked (possible but not likely) it is very unlikely to be crowded, so you can move behind the SMU bench if you want.

As for Derm, if you want to stay walkable to the stadium, the Washington Duke Inn is your place. Nice, very clubby vibe, great golf course too. If (like me) youΓÇÖre ok traveling to the game and want a livelier scene with fantastic restaurants and bars, then stay in downtown Durham; the Durham Hotel and its rooftop would be my choice, then the 21c museum, but there are plenty. For getting to the game, Uber to East Campus and just take the free shuttle to West Campus. It drops you off in front of the Duke Chapel and you can just walk through the quad and past Cameron Indoor to Wally Wade.

Not only should you secure your tickets through SMU, you should also attend the Mustang Club pregame party..all are welcome there.

You best support your school by buying tickets through it.

Wallace Wade seats 40,000. It is unlikely that there will be more than 20,000 Dook fans at the game.

Would agree on the buying through SMU. Have never had an issue with buying through them as opposed to Stubhub/Ticketmaster/wherever.

Location might suck sometimes, but rather be with a group of Ponies than off by myself somewhere.

I agree. As someone without much experience with road games, I think I'd like to be among my fellow Ponies. Even though I'm sure Duke will be a non-hostile environment.
