You don't have to change the Band's music. They just have to learn when to use certain songs in their repetiore. Too many times last year, including in the Women's tournament, there'd be a timeout at a huge moment in the game and the Band would bust out with something mellow. Save your Herb Alpert for pregame (remember when they used to play pregame) and halftime, not for the time out leading up to the most important part of the game.

Also, they need to play thier entire part of the timeout. Too many times last year they would stop long before the first buzzer, forcing the guy in charge of the canned music to jump in. Confusion, resentment ensued.

I dare say that the new director had never been to a basketball game before this year. So, it's bound to get better with experience right? Maybe Kehler can give a course on basketball band 101?

You need to make them put in the folder (if it wasn't this year) the godlike charts "lollipops and roses" and "woodchopper's ball". The latter has a great bassbone part.

I'm sure it's still in the folder, it's just that they don't play pregame anymore, which means they only play about 5-6 songs each game. They just never get that deep in the folder.

Was this the band's or the athletic dept's choice? I never got a straight answer on it.

Are you kidding me? I got there late to most of the games I went to, but they don't play pre-game....that's pretty freaking lame.

Also as far as Don not knowing how to conduct during a bball game....Tommy is still there and has been to countless games, including trips to the NCAA tourney, I would think he would be able to show Don the ropes.

tommy is too hush to just tell don what to do like that, imho. that and most of the time tommy and don would split the games and only one was there. towards the end of the season, we did play pregame, 2 or 3 charts, but sometimes no drums, they were always the last to get set up. we did have lollipops this year though; and played it!
