In my opinion the only landing spots for Clemson or FSU are the ACC or SEC. Everything else is just posturing to try to get deals done. Personally, I'd love to stay in the ACC and just get a better media deal. The ACC has national brands (you could find a hat for Clemson, FSU, Duke, UNC, Miami in almost any sports store across the country). Some leadership just made a bad, long-term media deal some time back.
I was really hoping the addition of new schools would allow that deal to be re-visited and re-worked, and maybe ultimately it will. If so, I think the ACC gets a much more on-par pay with the Big10 and SEC and Clemson and FSU stay put, which in my opinion is good for college sports as a whole. (We need more than 2 "big" conferences)
Everything you state is spot on. Especially that last part. The only thing worse for college athletics than just 2 major conferences would be just 1. And there is now ay that the Bug XII can ever again be Major. So either the ASCC retains that status or we have 2.
The ACC deal was not bad when done, but I think it clear that ESPN/Disney had NO intention whatsoever of honoring its verbal dal to look=in at least every 5 years to compare it to other league deals and improve it as was fair. Disney had become a very deceiful whore before then, and the ACC was naive. AS a Tiger you should recall that right before Clemson started that run of playoff invites an ESPN official said publicly that all the ACC had to do to get its deal moored significantly was win more in football at the top. Did the Clemson run mean that Disney then upped the deal. Not at all. And while Clemson was on that great run, which was topped only by Bama's run, we saw the beginning of ESPN talking heads bashing AXCC football as weak and even bashing ACC basketball as past its glory days and overrated.
So what we have is a situation in which Disney acts toward the ACC the way a Mafia lawn shark acts. Our business partner made a deal just to try to strangle us.
And what Disney is doing iOS bad for Disney doing term. Best for ESPN is that it have total broadcast rights of at least 2 major conferences. It closing any part of the Bt should have meant that ESPN saw the ACC as something to be promoted. Instead, it has clearly acted to hurt the ACC for the. assumed good of the SEC.
I despise Disney/ESPN most in all this, and if the SCC gets destroyed, I do not want UNC ij the SEC and on ESPN. Ask much as I lay have hated the BT, I now see the SEC and especially Disney/ESPN as worse than the BT.
