Smith Garners Preseason All-ACC Honors

CHARLOTTE (The ACC/SMU) – SMU senior Brashard Smith earned preseason honors from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) on Thursday. Smith was named to the 2024 Preseason All-ACC Football team in a release by the conference.

Smith is set to enter his first year at SMU as a transfer from Miami. He was named to the 2023 All-ACC Second Team as a specialist after returning 20 kickoffs for 423 yards and a touchdown last season. In his three years with the Hurricanes, the running back tallied 1,946 all-purpose yards with six touchdowns.

The Richmond Heights, Florida, native earned Athlon Sports preseason third team All-America and first team All-ACC accolades as a specialist along with being named to the Jet Award preseason watch list.

Miami quarterback Cam Ward was tabbed as the 2024 Preseason Player of the Year with 71 first-place votes.

Mustang quarterback Preston Stone picked up two votes for ACC Preseason Player of the Year to come in ninth.

The Dallas native showcased his abilities all last season, throwing for career highs in yards (3,197) and touchdowns (28). The redshirt junior's 2023 passing efficiency of 161.3 is the ninth best among returning quarterbacks.
