Freshmen Shine In 6-0 Victory Over Texas Southern
Liz Eddy records her first career brace

DALLAS (SMU) — Freshman Liz Eddy's brace highlighted SMU's 6-0 victory over Texas Southern on Sunday inside Washburne Stadium.

I was very pleased," head coach Nicole Nelson said. "They played up to their potential for the entire 90 minutes. The speed of play stayed good, decision-making stayed good, and the execution on the defensive side to keep a clean sheet was great."

The Mustangs' offensive explosion resulted in the team tying the most goals scored in a single match in the Nelson era. SMU scored four of its six goals in the first half, as Eddy became the first freshman to score multiple goals in a game since Nyah Rose did last year.

The Hermann Trophy Watch List recipient, Rose and captain Sammy Nieves scored for the second match in a row. Eliana Salama netted her first goal of the season and freshman Saddie Paul scored her first collegiate goal.

SMU's perfect start to the season continued, and the team improved to 2-0-0, while Texas Southern fell to 1-1-0. The Mustangs have now won four consecutive regular season matches dating back to last season.

The Mustangs were on the attack most of the night as the team did not concede a single shot, outshooting the Lady Tigers 26-0. SMU also led in shots on goal (11-0) and corners (8-0).

Graduate transfer goalkeeper Sierra Cota-Yarde earned her second win as a Mustang and the 11th of her career. Her second clean sheet in a row was her fifth career shutout.

// HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mustangs started the scoring onslaught right out the gate as Eliana Salama split two defenders before sliding a shot past the TSU goalkeeper, giving SMU a 1-0 lead only three minutes into the game. It was her first goal of the season and the fifth of her career.

Salama and Eddy lead the Mustangs with five shots a piece.

SMU kept the offensive pressure high as Hermann Trophy Watch List honoree Nyah Rose netted her second goal of the season seven minutes into the game. She has now scored in back-to-back games for the second time in her career. The Canadian has now tallied 13 goals as a Mustang.

After entering the game in the 23rd minute, Liz Eddy went to work on offense, scoring the next two Mustang goals and recording her first career brace.

She scored her first collegiate goal in the 28th minute extending the SMU lead to three before scoring her second goal, threading the needle off two defenders in the 42nd minute.
SMU went into the half up 4-0, outshooting TSU 15-0.

The Mustangs did not slow down in the second half as Sammy Nieves added her second goal of the season in the 50th minute, increasing the SMU lead to five. Nieves has now scored in back-to-back for the first time in her career.

Freshman Sadie Paul put the finishing touches on the game, scoring her first career goal in the 73rd minute, bending a ball into the top left corner.
