Jennings Tabbed Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player Of The Week

TYLER, Texas (SMU) – SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings has been named the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week, the organization announced on Tuesday.

During the win over No. 22/22 Louisville, Jennings was 21-27 through the air for 281 yards along with 113 yards on 10 carries on the ground, including a career-long 59-yard TD run. He became the first Mustang with at least 200 passing yards and 100 rushing yards since Matt Davis (212p, 181r) at Tulsa on November 18, 2014.

The junior has recorded six touchdowns in the past three games, and he holds a completion percentage of 66.7% since being named the starter prior to the TCU game.

In Jennings’ three starts , he has posted a 91.4 offensive grade by Pro Football Focus (PFF), the third highest by any offensive player amongst all Power 5 teams, trailing only West Virginia’s Wyatt Millum (T, 92.2) and Penn State’s Drew Allar (QB, 91.5). The 91.4 grade is the highest amongst any ACC offensive player during the three-week stretch.

Jennings was named as an honorable mention for the weekly honor following the win over Florida State.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.

The nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or currently playing at Texas D1 four-year college.

In addition, the organization also awards player of the week honors to individuals across the state with standout performances on a given week.

SMU has a bye this week before hitting the road again to face Stanford on Saturday, October 19 at 7 PM on ACCN.
