Glad you brought up the coach's show, Hoop. I thought it looked like what'shername was blatantly hitting on Coach Doherty (until he dropped the "wife" reference in there). But even as uncomfortable as it seemed, I agree that he was smooth. It even looked like that Renner moron was a little awestruck, and that guy doesn't get awestruck, because he really sees himself as "a star."

Coop (the area's unchallenged expert on college basketball) likes him. Check
Calvin Watkins seems to like him. Check
Two Fox sports reporters, one of whom looks like she knows what journalism is, like him. Check

Keep spreading the word, Coach Doherty.

All this stuff will tremendously aid recruiting. This is one of the reasons Bob Knight used to do a weekly show with BaD Radio, he thought it would help him recruit DFW.

Everyone seems to be kissing his [deleted] which is a good thing! Yes, Renner seemed a little taken back like he was big time. I loved the name dropping part of it with Coach D.

It is nice to have a coach who will talk to the media. The only time Tubbs interacted with the media is when he planted the extension piece with Blackistone.

dont get sucked in by this. Tubbs made the rounds when he got hired too. He did fine, but that was never his strength, and anybody who had a clue knew that going in. Doherty is corporate, very smooth, but we will see how long the attention lasts. Dement had attention, Tubbs had it, and if you remember Dement was pretty good at saying all the right things too. It means next to nothing. Lets see who the first recruit Doherty gets is.

With the cloud of sanctions hanging over our program, we have to keep our expectations very low. I expect it will take Doherty two years to get his players in here, and get over the negative recruiting caused by the Tubbs infractions.

only if there is something major out there. If there is, lets have it. And if there was, it is doubtful Doherty would have come here at all. The only thing hanging over the program right now is a botched PR job. Regardless, thats why you supposedly changed coaches to get a fresh start. Doherty's stock will never be higher. He better strike while the honeymoon is on, one way or the other. We know how long honeymoons last around here. I wonder if Max has told Doh how many minutes Matt will be playing next year yet.

if Doherty gets no one of significance out of this class-which is quite likely -then this is pretty much a total rebuild job-with several consecutive lean recruiting classes. It's going to take a long time to rebuild this program if he is not given leeway with Juco/Division 1A Transfers.

Amen. And it will cost us in recruiting, far more than burgers and Cheer ever did.

That's why many reporters were surprised to see MD come here because they felt this is a dead end job. I hope that MD got assurances that Transfers and JUCO's will get a better reception than they have in the past. Otherwise, he could be in for a rocky tenure here.

Tubbs did a lot in his short tenure to ruin the job. Hopefully MD can turn it around, we all have to be supportive next year when the team is lousy. If we have a winning record next year, it will be a miracle coaching job.

You have overrated every aspect of the Tubbs era. The players he left behind are servicable, but not likely the core of an NCAA tourney team. Without BHop, it is entirely possible that we take a step back. With the infractions and the failure to bring in marquee talent, Tubbs certainly set the program back to pre-Dement levels.
