Mustangs To Play At Notre Dame In 2026

Story LinksCHARLOTTE (The ACC/SMU) ΓÇô SMU, in conjunction with Notre Dame, Virginia and the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) announced it will play at Notre Dame in 2026 on Wednesday.

The game will be played in South Bend, Indiana at Notre Dame Stadium. Specific game date and time will be determined at a later date.

The Mustangs are playing the Fighting Irish in place of Virginia in order to allow the Cavaliers to agree to a two-game series with West Virginia.

This will be the 14th match-up in the all-time series history, the first meeting since 1989.

This is very exciting. If you haven't been to South Bend for a game, it should be on your bucket list. My son, also an SMU grad, texted me that he and my grandson will be joining me. An easy drive from Chicago too.

Our restored tradition will be enhanced by all their traditions in a Notre Dame Stadium rich in college football history. This is the type of game we have wanted on our schedule for a long time.

Notre Dame is 10 in the CFP rankings, and SMU is 13. These teams are close. I'd love to see them tee it up this weekend.

If you haven't been to a game in South Bend, (1) it's a blast, though it didn't hurt that Duke won; (2) the people are very welcoming and nice; and (3) absolutely under no conditions stay in that boring town--easy game trip in from Chicago (and don't look out the windows while passing through Gary).

When UVa played them there in 2019 Ms. Delaware Cavalier and I flew into Midway Airport, Chicago, on Southwest and drove to South Bend from there. It's a very easy route to follow. Part of the drive is on the Indiana turnpike toll road.
