You kind of have to admire someone with so little ability doing so well financially.

We've had some "winners". Bennett, Chad, June, Sonny to name a few. Bennett was awful. Chad was a climber. June was worn out. Sonny was a great recruiter and climber, but a terrible game coach. Remember the Houston game.

i guess people would have liked sonny if not for the way he left, but in the end it worked out for us.

Mike Cavan was the worst. I remember when Jim Copeland fired him his quote was "I've seen enough." and Mike Cavan responded famously with "Well, I've had enough."

Phil Bennett gave it his all and tore it to the ground to built us back up but just couldn't get us over the hump against Rice and then had the epic collapse his final season.

June Jones was great up until the ASU debacle.

Sonny Dykes was great up until he revealed himself to be a snake.

Hopefully Rhett Lashlee can lead us to a national championship and represent us in the CHOF.

Right now I will "settle" for a coach who is not a climber and will keep us in the hunt every year.

From Wikipedia:

"At the end of 2012, Sonny Dykes was announced as the new head coach. The hire of Dykes was intended to improve the program's low graduation rate under Tedford. He was expected to bring significant offensive improvements with his up-tempo, pass-oriented Air Raid offense. However, his first year will be most remembered for the team's defensive failure. He became the first head coach in Golden Bear history that could not defeat a single Division I NCAA opponent. Over his four years at Cal, Dykes failed to have a single winning season within the conference."

Cavan really was the worst. Terrible coach. I don't think he ever coached again after SMU. In fairness to Cavan though, SMU was the ultimate career-killing HC job in college football at the time. But Cavan managed to lose AND get us on NCAA probation, which was a notable "achievement".

Sonny is where he should be, at TCU. He took us as far as he could.
Glad we found a coach that will take us farther.

May we remember his name no more...

Looking back at it now, Sonny did us a favor. His betrayal (yes it is when you go to a cross town rival) led to the school and alumni laying the money down to get into the ACC. The Big 12 can't get a bye game this year. Oh, and he gave us that wonderful walk off double personal foul. Only an ACC title win will beat the fans 'serenading' him out!
