UNC finally fired Mack Brown
Thank the Lord!
Hopefully, we finally make a good hire and can help keep ACC football top notch.

Coach of College Football Playoff Contender Linked to North Carolina Job
Andy Staples of On3 ($) mentioned some options on Tuesday, and one surprising name on the list is SMU's Rhett Lashlee.
Rhett Lashlee came into the ACC blazing, and SMU has rewarded him for that," Staples wrote. "So if North Carolina wants him, itΓÇÖs going to be expensive. But it might be worth it."
Lashlee just inked a contract extension with SMU after a magnificent start to the year, so it would be surprising to see if he leaves for another job.
Moreover, SMU is right in the thick of the College Football Playoff conversation. Entering Week 14, SMU is 10-1 with zero losses in ACC play. The only loss for the Mustangs came against BYU in Week 4 in an 18-15 final.
While Lashlee's name might be surprising given SMU's current success and a new extension, Staples reveals why Lashlee could make the move.
"Why would he entertain a job in the same league? Because getting North Carolina at the top of the ACC and keeping it there might be easier than doing that at SMU," Staples wrote. "But would North Carolina be willing to pay a lot for the privilege?"
It is SMU's first season in the ACC, but Lashlee spent two seasons as an assistant at Miami (FL) and spent four seasons at Auburn as well, so he is no stranger to the spotlight.
SMU finishes the regular season with a home game against Cal before a trip to the ACC title game.
While it might be a longshot, the fact that Lashlee is even linked to the North Carolina job is something to keep an eye on.

I don't think Lashee's going to find a better NIL environment than SMU.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

She is a mess. She is the reason that to this day, all the Chapel Hill Garden Club and church mission womens groups love Mack more than anything in the world.
A funny thing recently is that at the press conference in CH before the team went to BC (and got smoked) Art Chancy got harsh with Mack. Art has been Sally's close friend since well before she married Mack. Mack got more than testy with him. I think that Chansky was trying to make see that he had better beat BC or he could get fired, and Mack was having none of any such hinting.

I do not see UNC trying to outbid SMU for Lashlee. If he were an NC native maybe. But not an AR guy who grew up on SWC and all things Dallas.

Nothing is impossible, but at this point it would take ludicrous-level SEC money to get RL out of Dallas.

It was time UNC moved on. Will be interesting to see who they get. Having a good UNC football team is good for the ACC.

That is what I think. So much DFW area talent, and SMU boosters are certain to have enough NIL money to load up on it. I think that SMU is about to have a long run of winning.

The two guys I said at the start of the season I hoped would be the pair from which UNC would replace Mack after the season have now officially been listed as top candidates: Tulane HC Jon Sumrall and UGA DS Glenn Schumann. I would prefer Sumrall but would be giddy over Schuman.
Of course, UNC before has gone after great candidates and failed to land them, and then latched onto a mediocrity. So I have to prepare to be depressed.

His exit from Texas wasn't very graceful, either. He obviously knows football and does some things well, but he sure doesn't get a good read on when it's time to move on.
He's 73. Go be a grandfather, play golf, start fishing, etc.
Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!

NIL and transfer portal are such game-changers that they're forcing out the old guys (i.e., guys who are used to doing things the "old way"). Mack Brown was one such old guy. I think Nick Saban was another. The difference was Nick Saban saw it soon enough to leave on his own terms.

NIL and the portal were apparently also big factors in Tony Bennett's decision to abandon UVa MBB on the eve of the season and go preach or whatever.

Dukie throws up the alley-oop pass, mrydel with the dunk. Well played.
Yes, Bennett said exactly that during his surprise exit. What made his departure was the timing, just a few weeks before the start of the season.
