I don't get how a team that is only one game over .500 in conference play, who lost to a .500 team, would ever be considered over SMU. Make it make sense.

One wonders about the geography of conferences and how that affects play. The SEC is rather condensed compared to other conferences. It is primarily a southern conference. Others, Big x, Big XII and ACC for much larger with significant travel involved. The distance and time changes can be a factor in performance.

In the ACC's case, Stanford and Cal have to travel across the country for 4 of their road games. Only halfway across the country to play SMU. Does Alabama have to do that?

And did travel and time change have anything to do with the outcome of the Louisville Stanford game? Which really messed up the ACC.

Also, teams that travel from the East to West coast may suffer from the distance and time change. These variables are not in the SEC. To some extent, that's a season basis in favor of the SeC and might give the conference a more favorable overall record.

And there is a lot of whining about traveling up north. Other conferences have snow and cold possibilities in their conference schedules. So weather can be a factor.

The SEC has done a great job of keeping the conference 'regional'. But with these spread out mega conferences, there may be variables that affect college football.

College football is fast moving to become the NFL. We may need to study how the NFL handles travel and time changes to produce peck performance.

Announcers at the Army-Tulane agree Alabama should move ahead of SMU if we lose. After all THEY beat Georgia!! We have to win to get in. Go Ponies!

another strong opinion in support of SMU but as we all know, "brand name" Alabama will probably leap frog SMU if we lose tomorrow even if Clemson beats us in a triple overtime thriller. There's just no such thing as a bad loss in the SEC so I suppose if you are better than .500 in conference play you are deserving of a CFP invite

On CGD this morning , Saban was shilling for Alabama HARD should SMU lose. Our Commissioner forgot that KJ quarterbacked the Mustangs and got on the tired rant that the selection committee would keep "Jordan Travis" out after a wonderful season....

Not a good look...

Desmond Howard pointed out that Bama lost to two teams that they were double digit favorites...Saban was trying to interject when they cut away.

Glad we are here, and in the middle of the discussion of "what happens if SMU loses"...Win. Give them no friggin' choice.

Am sure most of you did not tune in for MNF Broncos-Browns early in the week, but it was fun to hear Troy Aikman pushing the Ponies and calling himself a fan of the Ponies when the promo for championship weekend popped up.

Can't really root for his former schools - UCLA and OU. So glad to have him on the bandwagon!
