The rest of the ACC wants us to loseI've been watching podcasts about the upcoming game and reading the comments. From what I can tell, most of the ACC wants to see us lose simply because are the new kids and we don't belong in the CCG in our first year. It's amazing how many heads we are causing to explode just by winning.
I can also tell that most people haven't watched one minute of our games. They are just glancing at the stats and watching highlights.
Re: The rest of the ACC wants us to loseI was listening to a pod with two guys talking about the game (I can't remember which one) but it was painfully obvious that they haven't watched any SMU games this year. It was so bad it was almost funny.
Re: The rest of the ACC wants us to lose
There's a bunch of ACC podcasts that are run by FSU guys and they are salty. Even after the beatdown in Dallas they have no respect at all. The Miami fans are definitely in our corner though. "Moral Victories Make Me Sick" - TR

Small private schools have to stick together!
Re: The rest of the ACC wants us to lose
I KNOW!! One podcast was talking about how Clemson needs to watch out for RJ! "He might be the best TE in the conference!"
Re: The rest of the ACC wants us to loseLikely the case for all conferences since they're in a similar situation.
I'll say this, if FSU and UNC fans in particular are pulling for us....they don't feel good about it, lol.
Re: The rest of the ACC wants us to loseNot me. UNC alum. Been watching your games all year and pulling for you. Most ACC folks I interact with are certainly impressed by what you've achieved in your first season in the ACC.
It doesn't hurt that my daughter resides in Dallas and lives only a few miles from your campus. She HATES Longhorn and Aggie fans so pulls for SMU by default.
Re: The rest of the ACC wants us to loseThere is no anti-SMU sentiment on the Duke board. A few folks hope Clemson wins a close/OT game, but only because that's the only shot at both SMU and Clemson making the playoff, and moving everyone else in the ACC up a rung in the ACC bowl selections...
Re: The rest of the ACC wants us to loseMy response is....meh.
No one has wanted us to succeed over the better part of 3 decades, that includes some of our former admin. The fact that we're here is unbelievable in all honesty. I'm not going to say I'm just happy to be, cause it's all still right there in front of us...but no matter what happens tomorrow, I'm so proud of this team, coaching staff and program overall. We've been begging for something like this for years...and we're finally here. All the haters continue to hate. Believe in Rhett. ![]()
Re: The rest of the ACC wants us to lose
Your post prompted me to say again: "Thank you, Miller, et al...." stable-boy for the four horsemen of the apocalypse
Re: The rest of the ACC wants us to loseThe ACC doesn't want us to lose, they want two schools in the CFP. There is a big difference.
Re: The rest of the ACC wants us to lose
If Clemson beats SMU tonight Alabama will probably end up being ranked ahead of both SMU and Miami and likely be the 12th seed. Clemson got curb stomped by Georgia and lost to rival SC in Death Valley and that's all the SEC apologists will need for ammunition. Never mind the fact that Alabama lost to both a 3-5 Vanderbilt and a 2-6 Oklahoma team this year. South Carolina sits right behind Bama in the rankings but would they be elevated for having won @ Clemson? South Carolina lost 2 close SEC games against LSU and Alabama but got whipped by Ole Miss, who can also argue they are deserving because they beat both Georgia and South Carolina convincingly. Ole Miss can't escape that "bad loss" to 1-7 Kentucky, though. If the committee looks at a team's losses they would see ours will have come against "good" teams. Same could be said for Miami, i.e., they really have no "bad" losses. And let's not even talk about Notre Dame losing at home to N. Illinois! Bottom line is that we all know we need to win this game tonight. The CFP expansion to 12 teams has just brought more teams into the "disappointed" category, much like happens every year with selection Sunday for March Madness.
Re: The rest of the ACC wants us to lose
I have a hard time believing the ACC is dumb enough to believe that two ACC teams will be in the playoffs, especially at the expense of Alabama.
Re: The rest of the ACC wants us to loseI'm holding out hope they do the right thing IF y'all lose.
Re: The rest of the ACC wants us to lose
It’s simply that if you don’t care how the game goes otherwise, there’s at least a chance of 2 if Clemson wins a close game. That’s all. I agree it wouldn’t happen.
