Lashlee: 'Case is closed' for No. 8 SMU to make playoff
From ESPN.com:
Rhett Lashlee: 'Case is closed' for No. 8 SMU to make playoff
Andrea Adelson, ESPN Senior Writer
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- SMU coach Rhett Lashlee said Friday the Mustangs' No. 8 ranking in the latest College Football Playoff selection committee rankings is the reason they should make the 12-team field, no matter what happens in the ACC championship game.
The Mustangs face No. 17 Clemson (9-3) on Saturday night with an automatic playoff berth on the line. SMU (11-1), in its first year in the ACC, was the only team to complete league play 8-0.
"The reason I know we should be in is because the committee has ranked us in. They've said we're good enough," Lashlee said during an ACC championship game news conference. "The regular season is complete. All 134 teams have played their regular season. It is over."

They so want to include Alabama over us and we are giving them an excuse.

Now we see if the committee is as crooked as the SEC and BT want it to be.
That was a great game.

If the committee is crooked, so what? There will be no repercussions. People can complain and be flabbergasted all day long, but neither the committee nor college football will suffer. That might be the worst part about it.
I just hope we gained some respect tonight for not quitting and making it a game. IΓÇÖm proud of how our team played.

The NCAA has a long history of screwing SMU. Just last year, they screwed FSU and the ACC, as well as SMU.
My experience with these committee members is that theyΓÇÖre as crooked as dirty politicians. They will absolutely want to have Alabama in over SMU.

I'll let the gentleman who reviews our games review our atrocious play calling, if he so chooses.
This is rough. But it's been in the media quite a but so much that maaaybeee. I give it a 20% chance. Close Gane? Check. Reward conference game. Check. But these guys have no shame. Wake up and we'll see their bs.

The SEC board seems to be 95percent for us, which is surprising.

I expect Warde et al will find a way to explain that they really didn't mean there WOULDN"T be a penalty for losing a conference championship game.

You did. The comeback was great. It showed a team that has been molded in all the right ways and so has heart in spades. That plus the comeback from the Death penalty means all kinds of people will, however slowly, start to see SAMUY as a good thing in CFB because it shows we all can rebuild, even against very bad odds.

This is not the NCAA though. It is the committee chosen to run CFB post-season. And that committee is basically owned by the combo of SEC and BT. Greg Sankey has openly talked about how SEC and BT should get 4 auto bids each right off the bat. I think their ideal is to allow any other league only 1 team and allow no more than 4 other conferences to get that 1. SEWC and BT get all the rest.

Re: Lashlee: 'Case is closed' for No. 8 SMU to make playoff
Remember, this "college football playoff" is an invitational. Your invite can be earned but power brands play by a different set of rules. It's an invitational with the goal of generating maximum revenue and profit. Filter all the noise through that and it will all make much more sense. Of course Alabama should be punished for failing to score a single offensive point against a terrible OU team but their brand washes away their sins. The committee has said in the past they won't punish for playing in conference championship game. They'll change that narrative if it suits their agenda to do so. We need 2 more seasons like this one for the public to believe and our brand cache to build to the point of earned bias.

I'm sure there are a lot of disappointed Alabama fans but there was overwhelming support for SMU to be in the field for the CFP and it's the right decision for college football. Those were some really exciting Conference Championship games and you would hate to have teams questioning whether to participate in those games for fear of missing out on an opportunity to compete for the National Championship. If that game had continued the way it started and Clemson had blown us out I would have no problem with Alabama jumping us but this SMU team proved they belong.

We also remained in the top 10!
Lots of bulletin board material for the team, it seems like everyone (outside of those who have a vested interest in SMU) are predicting that Penn State has the easiest road to the final four.
