SMU already Making big $$$ for ACC

Postby PonyTime » Sun Dec 08, 2024 1:15 pm

For anyone (FSU fans) who says that we add nothing . . .

For the 2024-2025 College Football Playoff:

A conference will receive $300,000 for each of its teams in the College Football Playoff that meets the NCAA Academic Progress Rate, which is essentially a team-based metric to hold colleges accountable for their student-athletes' academics.
A conference will receive $4 million for each team that makes the 12-team CFP and an additional $4 million for each team to advance to the quarterfinals (eight schools).
A conference will receive $6 million for each team that advances to the semifinal (four schools) and an additional $6 million for each team that advances to the national championship game (two schools).
Each team that participates in the College Football Playoff will receive $3 million to cover expenses each round.

It's great that we are a value addition. In this era of constant shuffling we can never say we have made it. We have to constantly build on our success so others see us as a desirable conference partner.

SMU brought the money. The old ACC didn't. SMU took care of business and guaranteed at least one team in the CFP. Miami didn't take care of business and insured that only one and with luck with SMU two teams made it. Clemson brought nothing unless they beat SMU. Note, SMU brought the money regardless of the scenario . Miami and Clemson blew it by not taking care of business in the regular season.

As sad as our loss is, it made the ACC a bunch more money.

Plus Clemson is costing the ACC money by having to defend Clemson's BS lawsuit.

SMU would've brought $8M if it had a first round bye, correct? However, with two teams in, there's more chance for the ACC to win a game?

How does the CFP revenue expectations go? Does Penn State get to keep any of the attendance dollars or is it all forfeited to the NCAA? What if a school with under 60K stadium capacity hosted a first round game vs. ones that have 80K-110K fans?

Please note that due to recently changed "incentive additions" created to appease Fla and Clemson, teams making the playoffs keep their money and dont share. One of our eagle eye lawyers check me on this please. Unless they removed from our agreement. And at last glance, I don't recall this being a part of our agreement. Unless I'm wrong, which happens, that 4m is ours.

This is the first year of the
@theACC
“success initiative,” that rewards schools that perform the best in football and men’s basketball.
@SMU
is assured at least $7.2 million (bonus for bowl eligibility & CFP ranking) with an additional $16 million to grab as they chase a natty!
