I canΓÇÖt imagine leaving a team that has a chance to win a championship.

Re: Penn State safety won't return from injury
I was thinking the same thing.
I get it: assuming good health for Drew Allar, the backup can't expect to play much, if at all. But still, look at the example Preston Stone set. If Jennings stays healthy, Stone won't play much, if at all. But he stuck with us. First class, all the way.
Maybe this guy thinks he has a chance to start if he commits early somewhere. Good luck to him.

Yeah the backup can't expect to play much. Unless.... what if Allar gets hurt in the first quarter? Now, all you have behind him are 3 freshmen who have never taken a snap in a game! He's really letting his team down.
Can't you commit to a new team next year but stay with your current team to the end of your team's season?

I didnΓÇÖt look into it but the Duke board thinks the guy opting out is less a backup who sits and more a short-yardage run threat who does in fact play often enough. If so, this takes away a real weapon for them.Higher Authority wrote:I was thinking the same thing.

Re: Penn State safety won't return from injury
Winston, number 2, started the season at safety, but got injured second game and hasn't played since. Not a big loss.
The QB is a bigger deal. He came in for a few plays every game and gave them a running option out of the backfield. Him opting out is one less thing you have to plan around.

He's a change of pace QB who had a package that would get run 5 or so times per game. The fanbase was torn on whether the plays killed momentum or not in order to get him his snaps.Dukie wrote:I didnΓÇÖt look into it but the Duke board thinks the guy opting out is less a backup who sits and more a short-yardage run threat who does in fact play often enough. Takes a lot of gadget plays like this, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1W-Gb5lzN4, out of the playbook unless they're just going to run them with the 3rd stringer (who is apparently a stud in practice).

That's an interesting play but you would expect the receiver to be more open than that. That was just a great catch by a receiver beating great coverage.chitownnit wrote:

Edit: after re-watching I would call it good coverage. If the defender had turned around he might have had a play on the ball.

It was pretty blatant PI from the other camera angle (https://imgur.com/a/MAa0tRN) but I digress. Warren is a beast and will probably be the backup QB if something happens to Drew.highlander wrote:That's an interesting play but you would expect the receiver to be more open than that.
