Brashard Smith to play in Reese’s Senior Bowl

MOBILE, Ala. (Reese's Senior Bowl/SMU) – SMU running back Brashard Smith has accepted an invitation to play in the 76th-annual Reese's Senior Bowl.

The Reese's Senior Bowl is held annually and represents an opportunity for elite draft picks across the country to showcase their talent and connect with coaches and decision-makers from all 32 NFL teams. This season will mark the 76th year the event has taken place.

The game will be on Saturday, February 1, at 1:30 p.m. CT at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Alabama. The event will air on NFL Network.

In his lone season on the Hilltop, Smith has racked up a total of 1,977 all-purpose yards, setting a new program record for most yards in a single season.

On the ground, the Richmond Heights, Florida, native is just the 12th 1,000-yard rusher in program history. After eclipsing the milestone during the game against Boston College, the senior has climbed to 1,332 rushing yards with 14 scores entering the Mustangs' opening round playoff matchup.

Smith has also been a weapon receiving the ball, collecting 39 receptions for 327 yards and four scores.

In addition, he has 320 yards returning kickoffs this season, making him the only player nationally with 1,300-plus rushing yards, 300-plus receiving yards and 300-plus kickoff return yards.

He currently ranks eighth nationally in all-purpose yards per game with 141.21, 11th in total touchdowns with 18 and 15th in total points scored at 112.

This marks another achievement for Smith, previously being named a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award and an All-American by three different outlets, including First Team by the AFCA along with being named First Team All-ACC.

Smith will become the first Mustang to compete in the event since current Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice participated in the game in 2022 following his senior season at SMU.

His one year at SMU really showcased how talented Brashard is. Hope he is able to demonstrate his explosiveness in the Senior Bowl game. Who will be the next SMU RB to have the kind of impact Brashard did is a topic for another thread when spring ball rolls around.

Coaches and analysts have compared McFall to Smith, but it would be a mistake to overlook what L.J. Johnson offers.

McFall certainly looked the part in his limited playing time but there's also Chris Johnson, Jr and Rooster and Camar will be back, right? If the injured guys are back to 100% that's a really deep and talented room. Johnson looks like more of a north & south kind of guy who can be effective in short yardage situations but he definitely showed some explosiveness at times.
