Linebacker room

Post by Thumper »

Coming back:
Brandon Booker
Brandon Miyazano
IV Webb
Cyrus Aboud
Zach Smith
Justin Medlock
Xavier Wright
Sean Kane
Alex Kilgore

Transfers:
Zakye Barker
Kyle Ferm

That's 10. This year's roster listed 12, and we lost Ahmad Walker, Kobe Wilson, Tarrian Lee. Got to think we're looking for at least 1 more, right? Maybe 2?

This year:

1) Walker - Wilson
2) Kilgore - Miyazano
3) Medlock - Booker
4) Smith - Lee, where Lee was really a special teams guy.

We lose the two starters, and then Lee from special teams. Kilgore is clearly ready to start, and Barker is being brought in to start with him. Ferm will provide depth and special teams work, might be an upgrade from Lee. And then we add the freshman, Iheanachor.

I think they really like Miyazano and Booker, and even Smith even though he might take a little bit longer to develop like Miyazano did.

Basically, 3 out and 3 in, so I think we are done unless there is additional attrition or they don't feel comfortable with the younger players (which I don't think is the case at all).

This isn't the only room that will be impacted by guys having exhausted their eligibility but the defense does appear to be the more heavily impacted side of ball. Time for several of the younger guys on the roster to step up and produce

In what universe are they determining starting lineups now? Sure, we can assume Jennings will start at QB, and there are a few others at certain positions who seem like locks, but to have 2 transfers and guess which one starts is a bit premature.
Who knows? Maybe they both start, or maybe neither one starts.
Way too early to guess.
I really shouldn't drink and type.

Any interest?

TCU linebacker Kylan Salter from Cedar Hill (6'2" 225) is in the portal.

Didn't do much yet (injured in 2023), but the interwebs says he's a really good athlete, and it might not hurt to add to the group from the Cedar Hill/DeSoto/Duncanville/Lancaster area.

Wonder if Iheanacor will be talented enough to contribute as a true FR? Kilgore played a lot his FR year but we're going to have a very young LB room compared to what we enjoyed this past season with Walker & Wilson, that's for sure

Losing Walker and Wilson is going to be tough, although I think we all agree Kilgore is a stud, and don't the coaches have really high hopes for Miyazano and Smith and Booker? If Iheanacor comes in able to contribute early, Coach Crum should be able to put together a really nice group again.
