Very interested in you expanding on that last paragraph of information.SMU Biz Prof wrote:The business school can't help with AAU status, except creating a PhD program (which will take financial support from the university). AAU status will take a Herculean effort by engineering and/or other hard sciences. A medical school would help and be the sure path IMO, but I'm not sure SMU is willing to go the route of TCU/UNT to get there. It will take some risk-taking from Hartzell to change that thinking. Here's to hoping! It's a great hire!
I hope you read that Hartzell wasn't even in the pool. Some very influential board members went out and got him. You should thank the usual suspects there...and hope those board members do the same for the B-school Dean and use their influence to try and get us what is needed to get to AAU status.

I'm guessing his salary will at least double. Getting the legislature, the governor and a mediocre UT Board of regents, who are mostly feathering their personal nests with construction contracts, will be a blessing, not to mention being rid of the entitled hotheads on the faculty of all political persuasions.bubba pony wrote:from the internet:
Hartzell's salary is roughly $1.4 million. As of 2016, per the most recent data available, SMU's president made at least $3.3 million.

The new hire for the b-school dean will also be very important. Need to get that hire right and hope Hartzell has a key say in that process. Understood the timing was going to be spring of this year.
IMO, the business school should be much higher ranked than it currently is. Should be a top three in the state consisting of SMU, UT and Rice, then others.

I would love to help get engineering boosted at SMU to help us achieve AAU status. I was a double major management science and mathematics and I have always felt both disciplines are very underrated at SMU. Top quality education then and now. Was also president of the Tau Beta Pi Chapter and would love to help them achieve higher status. Also was a technical co-op and would love to see that program become a power. Go Mustangs!!!

Sadly, no public mention of Science or Engineering in the
public comments made by Hartzell. SMU will never be an
AAU institution without increasing enrollment in these
difficult majors.

Because of this, SMU will always play second fiddle. Our economy is changing at incredible speed and not willing to take the lead is irresponsible.Sadly, no public mention of Science or Engineering in the

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
