Mustangs drop road game to Pitt
PITTSBURGH, Pa. (SMU) – The SMU women's basketball team fell 72-59 to Pitt on Sunday inside the Petersen Events Center.
The Mustangs are now 10-7 (2-3 ACC) overall, while Pitt holds a record of 9-9 (1-4 ACC).
SMU had a strong start to the game outscoring Pitt 49-18 in the first half. The Mustangs went 10-19 from three-point range in the half as Nya Robertson scored 21 points. However Pitt answered with a 31-0 run spanning the entire third quarter and the start of the fourth. The Panthers outscored SMU 54-10 in the second half and held SMU scoreless in the third.
Robertson ended her night with a game-high 23 points. She led the charge to start scoring 17 points, shooting 4-of-6 from behind the arc. SMU held Pitt to just one field goal in the quarter (1-12) and led 32-7 at the end of the first.
Kylie Marshall and Kaysia Woods both scored nine points and went a combined 6-12 from beyond the arc.
Jessica Peterson secured 11 rebounds, and Zanai Jones added 10 points and five assists.
