Sitz collects fifth ACC Diver of the Week accolade
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC/SMU) – For the fifth time this season, SMU standout diver Luke Sitz has been named ACC Diver of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Sitz collects the accolade after earning a victory on 3-meter and a runner-up placement on 1-meter during the dual meet with top-ranked Texas last Friday.
In the first event of the day, Sitz earned a podium finish on 1-meter with an NCAA zone standard mark of 341.85 to take second. His top dive was his last one, recording a score of 74.40 on a Forward 2 1/2 Somersault 1 Twist Pike to cement his runner-up finish.
During 3-meter later in the afternoon, the freshman recorded a victory after earning a score of 389.55, another NCAA zone standard. His last three dives all scored above 68, including the final two scoring above 73 points. His top scoring dive of the event was his fifth, scoring 74.10 on a Forward 4 1/2 Somersault Tuck. He also recorded a mark of 73.50 on his final dive, a Reverse 1 1/2 Somersault 3 1/2 Twist Free to secure his victory.
The Prosper native has recorded podium finishes in every event he's competed in this season. In addition, Sitz has been named ACC Diver of the Week following each of his meets as an SMU diver.
The freshman's success is not limited to his performances as a Mustang, as he also competed at the World Aquatics Junior Diving Championships on behalf of the United States during the week of Thanksgiving. Sitz posted three top-six finishes, including placing fifth on both 3-meter and 3-meter synchronized.
His fast start to his collegiate career was foreshadowed last summer when he recorded two top-four finishes at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Diving Trials, the highest finisher below the age of 20 on both 3-meter and 3-meter synchronized.
The 22nd-ranked SMU men's swimming & diving program hosts its final dual home meet of the season when it faces Utah and Pittsburgh next weekend at Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center. Twelve senior members of the team will be honored prior to Saturday's session, which begins at 11 a.m. CT.
