Does this have something to do with Vandy being too scared to play us?
Don't believe so. That was supposed to be just the 2024 game that cancelled. For what it's worth, the future schedule slate still has us playing Vandy in 2028 & 2029. We'll see if it actually happens. Other than just trying to find someone to play, really doesn't make too much sense for us to be going up there to play them. But alas. Our schedule after 2026 is THIN to the say the least. We really need to get on adding some games, and quick.

Missouri State moving up to FBS level makes it more feasible to schedule home/home. Good road game against a program moving up in weight class as it's always tough to win on the road (see Nevada game this past season). Now get a home game opener against FCS opponent as a tune up to Baylor game in Ford

Mercer is playing Week Zero. https://fbschedules.com/mercer-uc-davis ... s-kickoff/Overall, there are still multiple FCS options available but the number dwindles by the day.
Their week zero game is in Montgomery (close to home for them) and it looks like they would still have 8/30 open so we could open against them and they would already have one game under their belts. I think a SWAC team makes the most sense
Mercer finished their schedule: https://fbschedules.com/mercer-announce ... -schedule/Get ready for SMU to sign a SWAC school to complete the schedule.

Even money on Prairie View to fill the schedule. We played them in 2023 but that lopsided 69-0 game might have left a bad taste in their mouths? I would say Grambling (played them twice back in the Pony Express era) except they play at Ohio State (a much bigger paycheck) the following week or Texas Southern who is also making a trip to play California (much more expensive than a visit to Ford). I would think some team in the Ark-La-Tex region makes the most sense

PV completed schedule. https://fbschedules.com/prairie-view-am ... -schedule/ND has an opening, but SMU is already going there in '26.

Seems like a lot of FCS schools are booked up. I see Harvard has an opening. But that would be a guess as to whether we'd score 100 points.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

I'd argue it's worth putting ND on the schedule for no other reason than just because.... there are plenty of FBS schools to schedule. With MSU already on the schedule there's no reason to just find Nowhere State U just to fill the void. Fina a decent program and let's move on.

Recent Name change, before was Texas A&M Commerce. And before that for many years was East Texas State who boasts the great Harvey Martin as their best player. My first year out of HS in 1985, walked on to the East Texas State Football team and stayed a year before transferring to SMU. I really enjoyed my time up there for that year, pretty good party school back in the day when the drinking age was 19. It is about 1.5 hours northeast of Dallas just north of Greenville in Commerce, TX.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

At least the way too early polls have four top 25 ACC teams. And we play the other 3 this coming season. Miami and Louisville at home an Clemson again on the road. (Charlotte was a home game for Clemson).

2025 ACC schedule will be tougher and we won't have a bye after every 3 games. I really think the timing of those byes helped the team stay relatively healthy last year. Our roster's depth should really be tested in 2025

Shadowman - did you know my old ETSU football pal, RB Ted Sample? His dad was the golf pro at a club where i worked - he would spend summers with us. Played in the USFL as I recall, Tulsa?

I knew of him, he had already left by the time I got there in 1985 but his picture was hanging in the fieldhouse for making the All LSC team and he came back for a game one weekend, mostly because the longtime head coach was retiring (22 years at East Texas State!). Was a nice campus for being in the middle of nowhere and the whole town of Commerce revolved around the University. Good times!
