Other games of interestModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Other games of interestUNC needed OT to beat BC 102-96 today. in Chapel Hill Notre Dame wins easily at Virginia 74-59. Duke has to come from behind to win at Wake who went up 6 points in the second half when Duke went on a 1-19 shooting slump. you just never know who is going to come to play on any given day/night. Clemson rolls on with a 15 point road win at Virginia Tech and Pitt wins at Syracuse
Re: Other games of interestCal needed OT to beat Miami in Berkeley and Stanford beat FSU in Palo Alto last night. Hopefully we can pick up a couple of much needed home wins in Moody this week
Re: Other games of interestNot AAC related but folks are having a meltdown up here with UCincinnati. Losing by 28 to byu may have cost the coach his job after this year. There are even people saying that UC made a mistake going to the Big 12.
Re: Other games of interest
Cincy was accustomed to (and spoiled by) winning in the AAC but now they are playing with the big boys. Big XII hoops is strong but Cincy hasn't competed very well in football, either so it's been tough since they made their move. Watching them from a distance, they've always been up and down so I expect they will eventually have success again and realize they are not going to do any better than where they are.
Re: Other games of interestFormer Mustangs Denver Anglin and Emory Lanier figured prominently in Rice's 82-71 loss to Tulane in Houston yesterday. Anglin scored 27 points in 27 minutes on 7-12 FGs including 6-9 from three and 7-7 FTs. He had no rebounds but had one assist vs 2 turnovers. Lanier scored 11 points in 18 minutes on 3-7 shooting but went 3-5 from three and added 5 rebounds. Rice is 2-5 in AAC play and 11-9 overall.
Ja'Heim Hudson played 3 minutes in Auburn's win vs Tennessee. On ESPN's Gameday show, Auburn coach Bruce Pearl talked about the importance of roster building and said you "can't just get the 13 best players" as that leads to chemistry problems and singled out Hudson's play against Georgia as the key to Auburn's win there last week. In that game, Hudson played 18 minutes and had 5 points on 2-3 FGs, 1-2 FTs but added 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Ricardo Wright played 14 minutes and had 7 points on 3-5 FGs including 1-3 threes. He had 2 rebounds and 3 assists vs 2 turnovers in Kennesaw State's 73-71 loss vs UTEP Jefferson Koulibaly is starting for Pacific but played only 14 minutes in their 60-44 loss vs Pepperdine last night. He took only one shot and had one rebound. Not sure if he might have been injured early in that game. I like seeing former SMU guys enjoying success but can't say I miss any of them. The one exception would be Zhuric Phelps who played 27 minutes in A&M's loss at Texas and scored 7 points on 3-10 shooting. He did make his only 3 attempt and had 5 rebounds to go along with one assist and 2 turnovers. Zhuric consistently takes more shots than anyone else on that team and on the season has 60 turnovers vs only 51 assists. Phelps and Boopie are both "alpha" offensive players but there is no contest between the 2 players in terms of sharing and protecting the ball.
Re: Other games of interest
They are going to have replace the coaches to be successful, which is going to be tough with the buyouts and not a whole lot of money.
Re: Other games of interestNCSU shot a lot better last night in their game @ Duke hitting 10-22 threes and actually lead at halftime 37-33. Duke and Cooper Flagg came storming back in the 2nd half and won by 10 points but NCSU was competitive. What does that say about our game vs Duke? Did Duke play a great game in Moody or did our guys just choke? I expect it was a little of both but hopefully our guys will play much better coming down the stretch as we still have Clemson and Wake who are 2 of the top ACC teams this year. I'd like to think we would show better against Duke, Louisville or UNC if see them again in the ACC Tourney
Re: Other games of interest
No question we could have done many things better in our blowout losses to the big three (Duke, Louisville, and UNC), but all three shot absolute lights out against us, especially from three point range and early which put us way behind from the get go. I think some of it can be chalked up to bad luck in playing a team on a night when they are on fire. They don't shoot that well most nights. Hopefully it will even out against the remaining teams and hopefully we can get some payback in the tournament against at least one of those teams that spanked us. Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
Re: Other games of interestWake Forest getting blown out @ Louisville tonight 56-29 early in the 2nd half. Reyne Smith has hit 4-7 FGs...all threes. Imagine that. This will be Wake's 3rd loss dropping them to the same level as SMU, UNC and Stanford as we all fight for the 4th seed in the ACC tourney and those early byes
Re: Other games of interestIt's upset day in the ACC today. BC beats FSU in a frantic finish in Boston and Ga Tech beats Louisville in Atlanta. Teams are scrambling and fighting to avoid being exempted from the ACC Tourney. It's time for SMU to win big games at home and today vs Stanford would be a good start
Re: Other games of interestAnd Miami picks up their first win over ND.
Re: Other games of interest
It got much, much worse for the Tar Holes after that. u*NC now two full games behind SMU in the standings, and Stanford a game back as well. SMU & Wake tied at 8-3 with the one regular-season matchup, at Moody, coming up pretty quick.
Re: Other games of interestWe've got all of the teams at the top of the ACC standings in Moody this year and have fared poorly so far against Duke and Louisville. Still time to make a statement vs Pittsburgh, Wake and Clemson. Have to win at least 2 of those 3 and avoid road losses which will be tough. On any given night any team that gets hot from three is tough to beat
