If nothing else, opening with E. TX A&M should give 2nd and 3rd teamers a chance to show what they've got and hopefully we stay healthy for Baylor the next week.

My Clemson grad daughter says it appears they are hoping to bring SMU to Death Valley in mid to late October and possibly make it their Homecoming game

If my wife won't kill me, the back to back Clemson, WF looks like a possibility for me.

3 of our 4 “tough games” are at home, with the exception of the road clash V Clemson. We need to protect our home field as every one of those game should be winnable..9-3, 10-2??

Mustangs’ 2025 football schedule set

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (ACC/SMU) – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced the upcoming 2025 conference schedule for all teams on Monday. With the release, SMU has dates set for its conference opponents next season.

The eight-game slate begins with a pair of home contests against Syracuse (Oct. 4) and Stanford (Oct. 11) in Ford Stadium to start October. The Mustangs close out the month on the road at Clemson (Oct. 18) and then at Wake Forest (Oct. 25).

November begins with a home showdown against Miami (Nov. 1), followed by a trip northeast to Boston College (Nov. 8...). SMU then gets a bye on Nov. 15, before closing out the regular season with a home finale against Louisville (Nov. 22) and road finale at Cal (Nov. 29).

As previously announced, the non-conference schedule consists of four straight weeks of games, starting with the season opener at home against East Texas A&M on Aug. 30. The Mustangs then welcome Baylor on Sept. 6, before heading out to Missouri State (Sept. 13) and then playing at TCU (Sept. 20) in the 104th edition of Battle of the Iron Skillet.

I'm looking at those same road games. Clemson for sure with my daughter and her family but might go solo to Wake Forest and look to join other SMU fans making that trip. As you say, wife might not be thrilled but at she understands I need to get my fix!

I've never been to South Carolina and am trying to figure out which airport would best without costing an arm and leg. ATL & CLT both are 2+ hours away. GSP is closer but is it insanely expensive? Any other options?

Greenville Spartanburg is clearly the closest most convenient but I assume Charlotte will be the lowest cost and about a 2-1/2 hour trip to Clemson. Atlanta is probably going to be a similar cost and drive. Columbia is another option but also going to be close to a 2 hour drive and it's been years since I used that airport. I know Charleston was always more expensive than the larger airports with more competition for passengers so it's just a matter of doing your research. Clemson is a really nice little college town and they have a golf course on campus (good luck getting a tee time around a football weekend, though) and lake so it's a really nice setting. I assume the Mustang Club will have a nice pre-game somewhere close to the stadium. It's a relatively hilly area (certainly compared to Dallas) and at least to me is a really nice place to go to school.

Regarding Clemson and airports

Postby BillgoCU » Wed Jan 29, 2025 1:51 pm

Atlanta is the closest major airport, although it is on the south side of Atlanta and you'll have to get through the city up I-85, which is not usually easy. If you can make it though with no trouble, it's a 1.5 hour drive, but more likely 2.5hrs. Charlotte is about 2.5 hours, but the airport is on the correct side of the city, so you can get out and get moving.
Greenville/Spartanburg (GSP) is your closest option, and one of the easiest airports to fly into our out of anywhere. It's about 45 mins from Clemson. Asheville is another option, as it is about 1.5 hours from Clemson. If you fly to that airport, be sure to visit the nicest brewery anywhere, the east coast Sierra Nevada brewery.

I live in Pickens County, SC (where Clemson is located) so if yall have other questions I'll be glad to assist. Looking forward to making some SMU friends along the way!

*Edit* I would also add that October is a fantastic time to check out the leaves in the Southern Appalachians of NC/SC/GA, so you might want to carve out a few days for some sightseeing, visiting apple orchards, waterfalls, etc. Whitewater Falls, DuPont Forest, Station Cove Falls, the Biltmore House, Blue Ridge Parkway...plenty of great fall options. And get some Clemson ice cream or blue cheese while on campus at the student center (made from milk from Clemson cows...both are excellent)

Thanks for the information, I'll check Asheville as well. I would prefer a non-stop flight, but when traveling from the West Coast (SMF) ATL or CLT are the most likely options.

Mrs CP and I are heading to the west coast in Feb to visit my bros out there. Direct flights from CLT to LAX on American and I thought very reasonably priced

I was thrilled to find a nonstop on AA from SMF to CLT for the ACCCG. Even better when I paid for it with miles!
